Seeing the Mario Kart 8 Mercedes-Benz GLA dlc (which is FREE), by the way, got me even more hyped for Mario Kart 8, as well as my friends and family, but everyone else doesn't seem to think so.
I remember hearing constant rants about how Mario Kart 8 needs DLC and how Nintendo should branch out more.
Okay, here's your DLC, branching out by being sponsored :
And now everyone's complaining about it.
"Nintendo's so desperate now" and "Nintendo is pulling cash grabs". Y'know, a purpose and a main goal of a company of ANY kind is to make money, plain and simple. Let's look at Forza, the entire GAME is a giant product placement, and nobody whines about it!
Is whining at Nintendo for everything, even Reggie washing his hands, a thing now?
Well Nintendo did say they were going to advertise Mario Kart 8 for a full year. Frankly, this is a lot more fun than just a normal ad IMO. I have nothing against it. It just looks a bit weird. People are overreacting like always.
My nieces are going to love playing with a "real" car.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

I don't think that's true. You're just seeing a few random comments on the Internet and reaching conclusions.
Millions of people don't care / will be happy with it.

Unfortunately this have been a thing for many years. Even if Nintendo is not directly involved, people will make them the center of attention.

Well, let's not forget about the Wild Wing, which was fairly realistic,
and that Sonic the Hedgehog rode this:
Genius marketing on behalf of Nintendo and Mercedes! I am loving this partnership! It's certainly more unprecedented than EA and Nintendo.
Also, I really am hoping this DLC comes to NA and other regions.
It most likely will, as it's a property popular worldwide, and that America runs on going crazy over cars (I've been dragged to JeepFest earlier this year), and hey, free DLC and an awesome commercial.

I don't think the design has much to do with it personally. Color that Mercedez pink and add a "P" for peach on each side and no one would complain about it.
It's the fact that it's from real life that makes it weird IMO.

I don't think there is anything childish about being against all forms of advertising.
(In fact thinking back to my own childhood I can remember myself being affected by it and asking my parents for junk all the time which is not a good thing).
Bill Hicks had it completely right.

Freedom of the press is for those who happen to own one.
This isn't a good thing but it's not a massive exploitation of children issue. It's clearly aimed at adults. Advertising products that a child can't use on a child's game is much better than advertising products aimed at children. I don't agree with it in general and the level I was exposed to as a child was nothing compared to the dirty tricks aimed at kids these days. If they had F1 real world tracks it would be a similar form of advertising but I bet nobody would complain as much.
I only posted this to get my avatar as the forum's thumbnail.

It's not that I dislike product placement, it just clashes with the game's art style so much... the car model looks pretty low quality compared to everything surrounding it too.
I guess I'm the only person on earth who wants to see Mario cruise around Rainbow Road in a Mercedes.
