I'm starting to get to a point where I don't want to finish a show or anime because I know i'm gonna be depressed when it ends. Even ones that end happily. But with movies, even ones that are multiple parts like Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, I finish the movie a-ok. Why does this happen all the time and what can i do to prevent/suppress it?

I feel the same way with long video games. That's why I start up another game when the first one is starting to wind down.
I suppose it's because we develop an attachment to it, and TV shows are more likely to have this attachment because of its greater length, when compared to movies.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
I miss the Rocky series with a touching end in the last movie. I know it'll have a spin-off but it won't be as touching as the Rocky series.
It also depends on how much they make that attachment quality with you and the media. If gradually, the show or movie series starts to get bland, you will lose interest in it all together.
I'd say the reason is you invest a lot more time in a tv show than a movie. Shows can go on for years if you watch them as they come out. You have more time to get attached to characters. With a movie you know it'll be concluded by the time you leave the room. If it really makes you depressed then maybe you shouldn't watch.
I get the same feeling with a movie and a TV series that ends when it's supposed to end (like Breaking Bad).
I get sad when a TV series gets cancelled because there isn't the same sense of closure that a series ending has. I also get sad when a series just becomes bad towards the end and I lose interest (like Lie to Me).
Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F
With TV shows, the creators/writers take time to develop characters that the viewer might hate/love and you as the viewer follow these characters through the ups and downs of a few or many seasons(Series in UK). When a show either gets cancelled or wraps up we are left either with a sense of satisfaction or sadness because we want it to continue. We find them interesting/relatable etc. A movie on the other hand is a condensed affair. Everything must be told within a 90-250+ minute window so characters/plot feel a bit rushed and not given enough time to flesh out said characters or plot. Even if it's a trilogy or more.

TV shows are plagued with ads, so once it ends it's always... sad. A movie isn't filled with ads, so we get full satisfaction from it, and we are happy.
God first.

Um, I'm pretty sure that isn't the reason, lol
If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
First, shows normally last about 5 years so it's disappointing to see a great show get cancelled and not live up to its potential or finish its story. Also, people get more attached to tv characters since shows need to rely on them and they have more screen time than movie characters.

Well it's simple, we invest more time into a television series than we do a movie. A movie usually lasts about 2.5 hours and a tv series can be an hour long once a week for as many years as its on. The characters are in your home on a weekly basis. So naturally you would be more upset over a show ending because it also becomes part of your routine.

I'll hop on board the "invested-train". I feel the same sadness when a great video game story – Ace Áttorney Trilogy being the latest – or a book ends; I want to have more, to relive all the ups and downs with the characters. Then again, this feeling shows that you've experienced something truly remarkable and it has changed you: how you think or feel. That, I believe, is the mark of an amazing story.
On the other end are things like Marco Polo or Family Guy: good entertainment while they last, but nothing groundbreaking.
Currently on the plate:
Mount and Blade: Warband – Napoleonic Wars
Chivalry
Super Mario 3D World – Finishing the last few levels.
Mario Kart 8
