@crazycrazydave: Football hooliganism is the WORSE.

I once went to Naples to watch them play against a local team and well, it was a small war zone in the stands; flares going off, chairs being ripped up and thrown to the opposition stand, a hoodied young man was attacking older men (and some with children) as well as openly racist chanting that continued during half time.

My friend and I left twenty minutes before the final whistle. We simply had to, if we wanted to leave in one piece!

As for games-related fanboys, I used to be a blinded Nintendo fanboy and some time between year two and three during the (disappointing) Wii years, I tried an Xbox 360 at a local game expo, playing the likes of Braid, BioShock, Burnout Paradise, Dead Space, Fable II, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, Mirror's Edge, Portal, Rez HD and Viva Piñata under one roof.

It was there and then that I realised what an utterly daft thing it is to deny yourself from playing other brilliant games on non-Nintendo systems, and I have never looked back since. I actually genuinely believe that it is Nintendo fans that are likely to miss out on more brilliant games if they (blindly) choose to stick with them.

@Peek-a-boo:

As for football, I def agree (living in the UK...well you see the extent of madness that football hooligans reach).

My story is similar to yours in some ways: I grew up with Nintendo, but moved on to Sony during the PS1 days. I stuck to only Sony for a while, especially during the PS2 days (Where they were at their best), but then when I got a 360, and then later a DS, I then realised that there are fantastic games everywhere, and to limit yourself to only a certain group of them, is only doing yourself harm.

But overall, I actually feel sorry for the video game fanboys, because they're missing out on so much fun.

IMO, the reason why fanboys exist are either because:
1. Purchase justification (they feel the need to try to convince themselves that the purchase they made, was the right one, and they do this at the expense of their other options, because many can't just casually spend $300+ on a console)
2. Team; everyone loves grouping together to hate on one thing, or
3: They're just very narrow-minded/they've never gotten a taste of the other options.
