Topic: Why are video gaming fanboys the worst?

I don't the worst fanboys are just for games. In fact I think fanboys in general are terrible, though there are certain fanboys that piss me off more than others(bronies), though that's because we share the same interest, but they take it to a ridiculous degree

People in the GC get pissed off at gaming fanboys more because they share the same interests(duh )

What makes gaming fanboys awful though is that they're more often than not incapable of rational thought. They're always fighting over their pieces of plastic, and on occasion have actually resorted to personally attacking other people for their preferences and on VERY rare occasions have gotten physical over it. I get having preferences, there's nothing wrong with that, but gaming fanboys usually act like deranged manchildren who are in dire need of a straight-jacket because someone may not like Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft/Valve/etc.

i feel like im one of those that isn't a fanboy i owned all of consoles Wii, Wii U, PS3, PS2, Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, N64, PS, GC, DS, 3DS etc. Why does Fanboys/Girls fight over which console is better. beats me. but it gets really old quickly reading them fighting which one is better.

Not everyone can have all of the systems. Either because they literally can't afford to get more than one or simply because it's hard to justify. If you're a kid then to get a second console you have to convince your parents. If you have a partner it can be pretty similar. If you're neither of those things you still have to convince yourself.

I'm sure most people in that position wouldn't turn down the "competition" if they were handed it. Just like even as a West Coast Eagles fan I wouldn't turn down tickets to see Freo play Hawthorn. I don't really care about either team that much but I love the game and it should be a good one. If you are a fan of gaming it's a bit like that. The hardware is just hardware but in order to enjoy it you have to pick at least one. And by picking one you are not picking the others.

I can't say I agree. People don't have to prove they didn't waste their money or otherwise. And if a person really DID feel like they wasted it, they'd just stop playing games on that system and say it out right, "I didn't like that system. It was a waste of my resources. I'm buying a new system next time."

And to most people a few hundred dollars is not an issue, and doesn't even seem like much to waste. Certainly not enough to defend the decision for 6 to 8 long years. If I spent a few hundred bucks and wasn't happy with my purchase I would say OK, I'll buy something else.

So no, I don't think that's it at all.

Now, for my input on this matter.

All I can do is speak from experience. But here's what I think. I think as gamers, we all naturally happen upon games we enjoy. Games we enjoy a lot even. And it's natural to want to share joy with others. For me, I love telling people about a great game and seeing them enjoy it as much as I did. It brings me joy to bring others joy.

So what I think what happens is, people want others to know just how fun the games are that they're playing. And while those games may indeed be fun, the problem comes in when the person starts getting tunnel vision and fails to acknowledge that other people also have games that THEY enjoy just as much as the ones you do, and they are just as eager to see you play what they like.

So with all these gamers wanting everyone else to discover- acknowledge even, how fun the games are that they're playing (which by nature is usually on one given system), and nobody willing to concede to the games others say they should look into, there becomes tension. The tension develops into hostility, and the hostility degrades to name calling, insults, and finally, instead of telling others how great the games are that the person is playing, they simply resort to telling others how inferior their games are in comparison.

It stems from resentment that others do not acknowledge how fun the games (and by extension, platform) are that a person is playing. People are almost never willing to investigate or look beyond what they already know and like and enjoy playing. And almost every person is like this. So you've got a situation where almost everybody wants to share the joy of the games they are playing with others, yet everybody for the most part chooses to remain ignorant and focusing only on what they already like. At least for people who own other platforms anyways, because people who own the same platform tend to play and enjoy a lot of the same games. This leads to mass resentment among gamers owning different platforms.

I don't necessarily believe fanboys exist. I believe what the thing you're supposed to say is Fanbases are just baaaaaaad. People can be biased to the point where they'll never understand, weather the subject like being the bad guy or being the good guy trying to defend some other fandom. I don't think I can express myself other than examples so I could screw up what I say, but hope you see my view.

I'm an occurring person within the fanbases with Metroid and Fire Emblem and these two franchises have been pretty shot recently with Originality Vs. Risks and Misunderstanding, Fetishes Vs. Moralization.
I'm willing to say M: Other M is a good game, but it's bad because of the controversial reasons and how stupid everything is explained, but I will say I enjoyed it at the time. While I absolutely don't like the idea of Prime Fed-Force, it's only because a 5 year wait for this that doesn't really seem like a Metroidvania game. Still, I'm willing to try it as it's a good source for socialization with it's co-op play. I'm this kinda fanboy then. I'm willing to understand and "give the benefit of the doubt".
I do think there is the lower more biased people who are willing to understand, but even when they try to, what they say is thrown back because of the past controversies. I was willing to wonder why people liked Fire Emblem: Awakening so much with question like "why this?", and "why not previous titles?", before I knew it, I got hated on for trying to be reasonable by both sides.

TL;DR people just suck. They can ruin what was loved, just for a franchise trying something new or just people not willing to understand. It takes the right people to talk to but they don't exist.

I would, unless they were also covering the $1000+ air fair. Go North Melbourne!

Well for a start gaming a media that's one of the more expensive. It's easy for you to just say "it's just a few hundred bucks" and brush it off. But it's still a few hundred bucks. And if you have a gaming console that's a few hundred bucks that would have otherwise gone somewhere else. At the very least some more games for the console you already own.

People buy into one platform to start with. If they can't justify getting a second then they will defend their original decision. It's a natural response. As I said earlier it's not like music or movies where all options are available to you equally. If I want to listen to music from a different label I don't have to buy another phone. But with the platforms if I wanted to play Halo 5 I'd have to fork over $80AU for the game and then another $450AU for an XBOne.

I was going to say "boo" to you supporting North Melbourne.... but as a West Coast fan, maybe not a good idea....

Seriously though, how on Earth is North Melbourne holding on? It's pretty insane that they're still in it. Frankly I'm still kinda surprised that the Eagles beat the Hawks as easily as they did a few weeks ago with Priddis out. But North beating Sydney was ridiculous. If North can take out the Eagles after what the Eagles did to the Hawks then they deserve to get the flag. But they won't, because the Eagles are at full strength.

Not sure, I think we've had a winning side for a while now, it's just been a matter of getting them to play 4 full quarters as well as having different strategies in place when the initial one doesn't work. There were a couple of goals that Sydney shouldn't have gotten due to the Roos giving away a few stupid free kicks, and their forward 50 was under manned. West Coast may be at full strength, but so is North and strange things happen in finals, I know the Eagles are the favourites, but we'll see what happens, I hope it's a close one.

Well obviously I'm biased, there are few things I'm more biased about than the Eagles. Though after the way the Eagles performed against Hawthorn? The amount of pressure they put on Hawthorn's forwards? If the Eagles can repeat that this week I don't think North Melbourne has much of a chance. The Ruck battle will be interesting, I think Naitanui has something to prove after not getting the All Australian spot. But I think the Eagles will completely outclass North Melbourne everywhere else.

The way they're playing I reckon North probably could've taken the Dockers. If they got a bit of an early lead going. But against the Eagles? It's quite an ask. The Hawthorn v Dockers game though, that's the tough one to call. I hope the Dockers win purely for the chance at a WA Derby Grand Final. But beating Hawthorn, even at home, it's quite a challenge.

You've never met the worst kind of fanboy until you've met a 'Hun' (a supporter of the dead club Rangers FC).A different breed altogether!

Good point. Since I was a kid I've always been a Nintendo fan but, at the same time, playing other consoles at friends'. When I had the SNES, I was playing the Mega Drive, when I had the N64, I was playing the PS, and so on. I've always been able to appreciate any console as long as that console had games that I considered fun. This is the first generation I almost have everything. First I got the Wii U, then the PS4 and now the Xbox One is on my radar because of Rare Replay, the backwards compatibility and the Kinect-less bundles, so I'll have the three of them eventually. Fan wars are pointless and quite ridiculous, there's always something good elsewhere, and that company you are devoted to doesn't really care about you anyway, Nintendo being the greatest example of that because they have ignored most of their fans' more extended requests.

Personally, I don't see video game fanboys as particularly worse than any other kind. These types exist for every type of work in every medium (whether that be TV shows, films, comics, cartoons, anime or anything else). They exist for every possible type of human discussion topic for that matter, and to be honest... the ones for politics and sports make the gaming fanboys look tame.

There's nothing that makes gaming more prone to fanboys than anything else.

Yeah, the umpiring was pretty dodgy for both games. Didn't change the result for either of them though.

@DiscoDriver43 Absolutely, whatever nonsense the video game community gets up to, very rarely does it end up in utter chaos and mass violence and vandalism that can happen during and after a football game. Anyone that lives in the UK knows a football team that has an opposing team they absolutely despise, and will happily invent racist, anti-religious and nasty slogans and songs in order to hurl abuse and give them and their fellow fans more ammunition. Anyone can look up Rangers vs Celtic in google and get an idea of how bad it can get. In fact, this behaviour is one of the reasons I don't watch or keep up with football.

If video game fanboys got worse than football fanboys, they would be saying the things they say to your face instead of on the internet, and would happily punch you if you gave them a remark. As soon as video game fanboys keep this behaviour into their 40's and pass their puerile behaviour onto their kids, then I might see them as the worst. They can be bad, but they haven't been around for decades the way football hooliganism has been.

We're going on a bear hunt! We're going to catch a big one!
