(Was this inspired by the "What are you listening to right now" forum? Uh...probably?)
Anyways, here's the rules:
This forum is for people who know of a great artist(s) or band(s) that most people don't know about. You can tell us in a list, in a few sentences, or a paragraph. PLEASE do not include artists that ARE popular. They have to be known by few, not known at all, or just now unpopular. Artists who were once popular but are now obscure are fine.
Let me kick off the list with Sky Sailing. It was a one-man-band created by Owl City. I don't think it was popular enough, though, and only one album was released: An Airplane Carried Me To Bed. If you enjoy 2000's acoustic pop, you might want to give it a listen.
Who's next?
Nothing is better than playing a game and having a character say something like, "What was your name again? I forgot. Oh! Forgotten!"

I haven't listened to a lot of music from entirely obscure acts, but there's some that only had one or two big songs that I've enjoyed their work as a whole. Like Crowded House, Kimbra, Savage Garden...I just realized that these are all in or near Australia...huh. Savage Garden might still be popular but I feel like I'm the only person who cares about them at all somehow. I think because they're kinda lame tbh. They're good despite that.
@Oliviabrown We can talk about music in video games made by little known artists, if you want.
@8kkslider5552000 Interesting selection. I remember Crowded House. One of my favorite bands, Sixpence None the Richer covered "Don't Dream It's Over." Since most people have forgotten about SNTR (or at least put them in the backs of their minds) I can put them on this forum!
@ForgottenArctic what does this have to do with video games and nintendo
It gives people a chance to complain about how this isn't about Nintendo.
Black Futures, fantastic live band who are one of the must sees of the UK club scene. They've got their first album out this year and are gonna be big.
I've also really gotten into Hands Of Gretel recently, they have nailed a sound of 90's grunge mixed with No Doubt, so super sugary and alt rock. Another great band to see live and are constantly touring.
Does Perfume count? I only meet fellow fans at concerts.
Taiko is good for the soul, Hoisa!

@jump 90's grunge and alternative was a big part of my teen years, so your description piqued my interest. Description was spot on.
Never heard of them before, but I like it. It's new, but gives me a nostalgic feeling like this could have come out back then. Thanks for that

I'm glad you like them. They aren't big so most folk don't know them, I remember how I discovered. I was at a festival last year and I'm looking at the programme where the pics of the bands are all the same thing, guys in jeans, t-shirts and leather jackets trying to look serious and cool. Then I spot the pic of Hands Of Gretel were they're wearing brightly coloured cloths and had a look of goofy fun on them. I saw they they didn't clash with anyone on the line up so I checked them out and I've been a fan since.
I thought Swing Out Sisters' "album "It's Better To Travel" that was released in 1987 is completely timeless. They are still a band that plays mostly overseas., their musical direction changed and I'm not a fan of it however, their first album is great. 80's pop synth that isn't over the top.
