You assume that the video game world follows a parallel chronology with our world, and yet shouldn't Mega Man X take place after Mega Man 9? I don't think the law will be letting Chicken near those meaty wrists any time soon.

Well, sure, but most video game characters don't age. If they did, Mario would have to be well into his 50's by now and wheezing with every jump while complaining how much his knees hurt.
