Topic: Who can play guitar??

I just bought a guitar a couple days ago, and I was wondering how many people here on NL can play guitar?

I can play bass guitar and drums, but I suck on a 6-string.

I was pretty decent before an issue with my hand about a year ago prevented me from playing, but I had corrective surgery recently and picking up the guitar again is something I very much look forward to.

It's a brilliant and rewarding instrument, so keep at it. It will get discouraging. That's okay. Just don't give up.

I play a lot too, solo though, i also compose my own versions of parts i know from songs off the radio

I was in a band for about 8 years. I've been playing the drums for 26 years. We recorded an EP that I have in storage somewhere on cassette. We had a great guitar player. I wonder what ever happened to him?

Started when I was 13 so that's 22 years in the old scale trying to pass some knowledge onto my kids now... Cant believe Smoke on the Water is still the staple "1st song I've ever learnt"....... But just not stairway as much.... in the early 90's it was Enter Sandman but Smoke on the water has always been there...

I fiddle about on a number of instruments. Guitar is not my favorite anymore, but it is without a doubt the most versatile. I found a cheap dinged up classical not long ago, and I absolutely love it. It sounds so much better than other acoustic guitars (non-classical? not sure what it'd be called). Enjoy your new toy, Kizzi. You'll get more mileage out of that than a game console in the long run.

I have a Yamaha acoustic guitar, it's not that great but it sounds good due to it's age. A Godin LG limited edition 50th anniversary Long and McQuade, six string, beautiful guitar, mahogany body and neck, Seymour Duncan humbuckers with coil taps mmm... Anyway, and a Fender Stratocaster 12 string electric.

I have a Gibson flying v,Gibson SG,Fender usa hwy1 strat, 2 dean bass guitars, Jackson charvel bass, and a crappy acousitc.

Right, but bringing back the topic's question, can you play guitar?

I play the Guitar and Mandolin but like most people who play any instrument "I am not very good"

I am jealous of the mandolin. It's next on my list.

As Johnny Greenwood said, anyone can play guitar.

Anyhow, it was my first instrument at 16 (acoustic for the first several years, the only way to start, so that electric is so very easy when you finally try it), and my fingers were glued to the fretboard during a certain period of my life, but in recent years I prefer playing the keyboard or piano, mostly for versatility (ie, I can hear any song on the radio or out and reproduce all its parts faithfully on piano when I get home, from the chord progression to the bass line and melodic movement, but that's not quite the case with guitar). If my @$%@ carpal tunnel issues would disappear I'd be at the keyboard right now, but I'm having to give it a break, for the left-hand octaves cause quite a bit of pain in that arm right now.

My first acoustic which I loved and cherished, got thrown 40ft in the air because a stoopid girl mad me angry. I regretted it, the moment it left my hand. I nailed it back together and it had some awesome reverb on it after that.

I used to play alot but not much anymore. Can't read music for **** but love to sit there and break a tune down and recreate on guitar. I sometimes sample it into dance n chill tunes I make with cakewalk. The tips of my fingers are soft though, which shows how often I play.

I guess like a lot of people I went through that phase of high school where I was totally going to be an awesome rock star. I can play guitar fairly well, but for some reason I just can't get the hang of bass. Not the slightest clue why, as everyone always tells me it's so much easier.

Note:Keep up with the guitar. It's a great skill and the chicks LOVE it. I'm not kidding.
