It can be easy to poke fun at how many game series have games which are more similar to each other than they have to be, like how some say that all Pokemon games are the same or how all Call of Duty games are the same, but I wonder, which company offers the most variety when comparing exclusive franchises on their respective consoles?
I feel that Nintendo prefers to play it safe which does tend to pay off for them, but with Sony and Microsoft, I feel that they tend to take a few more chances.
Sony has the most variety, they try to cover more or less every major genre with their first / second party studios, albeit with varying degrees of success, you have platformers, arcade to sim driving titles, third person action / adventure titles, and FPS's....Microsoft does the same, but to a lesser degree owing to the lack of first / second party developers, however, Microsoft does a better job than Sony in marketing a supposed killer app title.
Nintendo has the least variety out of the big three IMO, but taken from a pure quality and presentation viewpoint, it's hard to say that they aren't the best......
Hmmm hard for me to say both Sony and Nintendo offer me alot of variety Sony in the way they have really story driven games like The Last of Us to great sports games like MLB The Show to great Indie games like Resogun. Nintendo is great with the variety in games like SM3DW and Mario Kart 8. Both systems have enough to keep me busy.

Sony. The other two do usually have variety, but it's so underplayed by everyone that no one knows it exists. Sony's the only one lately (in terms of already released games at least) to have some major levels of attempts to focus on variety (even if too much of that was sadly DOA thanks to being on Vita...though that Tearaway port is proof they care about their underselling titles...)
By the time I got a 360, the attempt at JRPG focus was going down a cliff and it became the Gears console and I don't think I need to point out Wii's "got no games" idea that everyone falsely assumed, because I've done that to death.
Sony, then Nintendo, then Microsoft. Nintendo has more variety (at least when it comes to first-party software) than people give them credit for, however.

Sub12 there basically nailed my feelings on it quite a bit with sony, but I disagree and feel that if anyone has the least by far it's Microsoft and they don't care to remedy it either. XB, 360, One...what franchises do they or their owned second parties do? Halo, Forza, Gears and almost nothing else...no variety really and nothing special you can't get something kind of comparable elsewhere, and even if they puff up a game say like Titanfall, it was on and nicer on a computer too. Sony and Nintendo have a good bit of variety, Sony more clearly, and they both have a tight leash on their stuff so it doesn't get farmed away from their consoles and handhelds wisely. Mind you this post is speaking on closed variety, of what they alone offer, not the big whole picture, because then definitely Nintendo is dead last since they've run off most third parties and people who want to buy those games as they've for generations fostered a market of first party buyers who live for the new release.

Sony, then Microsoft, then Nintendo. Sony has the variety focus and 3rd parties, Microsoft has slightly less of a focus on variety but has 3rd parties, and Nintendo has some variety (not to the extent of the other two, in my opinion), but has very few 3rd parties.
This doesn't really mean anything for quality, mind you. That, and if you want it all, you'll need all three.

I'd say it's pretty even right now. Nintendo uses alot of the same IPs, but releasing games like W101, Splatoon, Pushmo, etc. is just as much a big deal as Sony releasing Bloodeborne and such. Then we have Microsoft releasing Quantum Dream, Crimson Dragon, Sunset Overdrive, etc.
Historically speaking, I'd say Sony has made the most variety of games on a purely aesthetic level, but the games themselves aren't that fun or are only one hit deals. There will probably never be another Journey, PS Battle Royal, etc, so their IP utilization is ultimately weaker for games that some people would enjoy another game from. WipeOut is dead, Ape Escape is basically dead, and so on, so it realy depends on how much you want to play a newer game from a previous IP, too.

Sony has the most variety in consoles, Nintendo in handhelds (not talking only first party but variety of exclusive games in general, including third party)
When excluding 3rd party games: Sony>>Nintendo>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Microsoft
Honestly Microsoft have terrible 1st party variety towards the end all the 360 had was Halo and Gears and I don't like Gears much which is why the 360 was sold to finance a Wii U.
Including 3rd party: Sony>>>>>Microsoft>>>>>>>>>>Nintendo
Overall, I'd say Nintendo though for 2009/2010 tied with Microsoft. If you ask anyone what feature that was removed from Xbox 360 they miss the most chances are you'll get the response "1 vs 100". The fact that they adapted a big TV game show into a game of which you could actually win prizes was extremely special. I still remember getting into the Mob and then being eliminated by a question to do with the X Factor, of course in 2010 Kinect was released so that introduced a large variety of games too.
