I was just remembering when I first started visiting NL, I believe it was 2010 or 2011. What I really liked about the website at the time was that the community was very nice and respectful. The comment section didn't have any shallow arguments or outright trolling, which was really nice. It has changed a bit in the past years but I think it's still better than most websites. What brought you here and why did you stay?
I found Nintendolife on year 2015 by using my 3DS Google browsing and since then i depend on Nintendolife for every upcoming Nintendo games and i can sort what kind of games i just want to know without buying Games magazines that will definitely has some rated M games inside.
Perhaps ironically, despite having owned a GameCube and a Wii, I didn't really embrace gaming until my first kid arrived. I realised I was going to be spending a lot more time stuck in the house and the off-TV functionality of the Wii U really appealed to me, so I bought a Wii U in 2013.
It was mostly just a FIFA machine for the first 6 months, but I think I started visiting Nintendo Life around then. I felt the main gaming sites weren't great for following Nintendo news, and while browsing Metacritic one day I decided to look out for a more Nintendo-specific site. Scrolling down the list of critics for a few games, the name 'NintendoLife' caught my attention. I followed the link and liked what I saw enough to mentally bookmark the site, and it just became a daily habit not long later. The format and presentation of the site seemed to work for me, and I liked the range of articles and the fact it had comments sections and its own, fairly active, forum, and the live chat on the Directs were so full of hype from desperate Wii U owners that I became hooked on the buzz. The shared camaraderie of being a Wii U owner created a special bond that I would never have found at any other gaming site I don't think.
I've learned a lot about Nintendo and why it's so special from the community here, and much of the reason behind me having become a much bigger Nintendo fan over the past 6 years is the appreciative e:cosystem here. The site content seems to have degraded since about 2016, but there's enough fun to be had here still to maintain its place as a daily haunt of mine.
After I got a New 3ds & Mario Kart 7 in 2016, i KNEW i needed the Switch when it launched to get Mario Kart 8. When the Switch launched with botw, that's when I started watching Nintendo news and developed a preference for this site. Alex Olney was a draw, too.
On a related note, I joined because I was one of those idiots that bought a WiiU. I made some real friends here, and in the chatroom that used to exist. Wherever you are 'Zerker I miss you
Around the time Nintendo La Rivista Ufficiale, which is the Official Nintendo Magazine for Italians, pretty much vanished into thin air (E3 2013). Years later, I found out via Twitter that its top writers (such as Ugo Laviano, Davide "@Magiustra" Magistretti and Andrea Babich, just to name three out of an equally talented bunch) are still around, working for IGN and Everyeye. One of them is even a user around here, I linked to his account.
If some of these names are familiar to you, chances are you've been paying attention to the ending credits for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. I wish they could get to review some of the better games in the late Iwata/early Kimishima era.
I started checking Nintendo Life regularly for news back in 2017, and signed up back in January of this year (2019 in event someone reads this post in the future) for an account to comment on some articles. Before 2017, it was on and off as a friend and I would often look at Nintendo news during the Wii U days.
The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!
I needed a new way to keep up with Nintendo news when Official Nintendo Magazine (UK) ended in late 2014, and this website was the first one I found so I stuck with it!
I used to read wiiudaily but it when it became nintendotoday it seemed like the writers just hated Nintendo. Every article was unfairly negative. I decided to look around and found nintendolife which was much better, frequently updated and positive about its subject matter. By no means do I think nintendolife have rose tinted glasses on but it doesn't contain unfair negativity. Also it touches on sega and other retro companies which all in all is great for me.
I began visiting mid 2016 when rumors of the new Nintendo NX were running rampant as well as good info on the NES classic. Seemed the best place to get the latest info on all things Nintendo. Since becoming a daily (sometimes hourly) checker of the site and its forums I've been able to jump on deals and be aware of what I want to get far faster than before. Normally hearing about things days after the fact on IGN. Great site. Mostly great community.
I used to go to Nintendo's official site for news, which was next to nothing. One day I searched "nintendo news" on the web browser, and NintendoLife appeared. I clicked on it, and found the site interesting and I loved Alex Olney's videos. I made an account in the beginning of 2019, and have used this website since then.
Came in last spring with the wind and pollen, shortly after grabbing my own Switch. I enjoy the community and silliness mostly. The Chit-Chat thread is my home away from home.

I started lurking back during the pre-WiiU launch hype, so 2012 or so, but didn't start posting until the pre-Switch hype. I originally enjoyed the actual meaningful articles and content compared to a lot of trashy, hypey sites I was otherwise reading, and lurking the comments was a pleasant read unlike the arguments, accusations, and awkward role playing and such other comments had.
Since then the articles and comments have picked up more of the things I disliked about prior sites I'd visited, unfortunately, but the community mostly keeps me here, and even the staff, while I disagree with some of the decisions they've made, I like them on a personal level, so it's hard to stay mad at them.
@gcunit Back in the Wii U days this website was like a support group for all of us. Though I think the most fun I ever got from a console was the Wii U despite its shortcomings.
@Illusion I also used to catch up on Nintendo news on IGN, but they never put any Nintendo stuff on their main page. It was (and still is I guess) all hidden under the Nintendo section, and updated so slowly that it felt like I was reading the same articles throughout the week. I felt like Ninty was covered as a second class subject, and that didn't feel nice. So the focus on Ninty and the frequent updates I found here on NL was nice!
I joined before the Switch launched in February 2017. I don't really remember why, I had been a reader for about a year, so I guess I just thought it was time to share my opinions.
