No, I'd rather let them strive free in my garden killing any pest that enters, but I used to put them in a jar as a kid for examination. Insects aren't ideal domestic pets if you will just be watching them IMO.

@Oni - I've kept a couple as temporary pets. I always loved to watch them catch their food (especially flying insects). Interesting fact: mantises have the capability to remember and recognize things, which means that they can be domesticated. I used to let my mantis perch on my head while I did homework.
