Where I come from, a sugared donut with a raspberry jam filling is the main. But a freshly made warm donut dipped in cinnamon sugar is pretty ******* wild too.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Are donuts fried or baked? Where I come from a proper donut is fried in peanut oil and just sprinkled with granulated sugar - full stop. Classic italian.

@spizzamarozzi - Definitely fried or it’s not a donut. In the US (maybe elsewhere too), there’s a carnival treat called elephant ears. Pulled dough, deep fried, then sprinkled with a granulated sugar and cinnamon mix. It’s divine. Powdered sugar makes me angry.
Yeah, powdered sugar is a waste of everyone's time.
In Northern Italy (which is not where I come from, I'm from the midwest) an elephant ear would be a butterflied thick veal chop, pounded thin until it becomes four times its original size, then dipped in eggwash and breadcrumbs and then fried.
Donuts around here are fried and got to have a hole, otherwise they're not donuts. The same preparation but without a hole is called a "bomb" and can either be filled with pastry cream, chocolate mousse/nutella or apricot jam. They are almost exclusively eaten for breakfast or after a night out.

@spizzamarozzi
In my country, donut that made by Mid-Low Economic peoples, the taste was Horrible.
The Donut tasted like you eat them from Factory machine, like there was an Air from machine trapped inside the dough.
And they usually used Low Quality Granulated Sugar / Very Tangy fruit jam. Tasted so Artificial and Bittersweet sensation.
@Anti-Matter I think this has more to do with the fact that they try to produce an elaborate American treat with the ingredients they can afford, and the results are not quite as good as the real stuff.
But I'm sure there has to be a traditional Indonesian treat/dessert made with fried dough, even if it doesn't look like a classic western "donut". Do you remember any? Perhaps not with wheat flour but with rice flour?
Traditionally, fried dough dusted in sugar is the cheapest thing ever and something that working class people should make perfectly. I'm sure you were just searching for an American donut in the wrong places. But I bet the Indonesian working class can make excellent traditional Indonesian treats!
@Yosheel wha? Kryspy Kreme?? I thought you were going to mention some traditional esoteric donut originated in 15.000 b.C. by flesh-eating semi-gods who had psychedelic trips on forbidden chile...

@Yosheel oh man there was almost nothing better as a kid than rolling up to a Krispy Kreme when the "fresh baked" light was on! Donuts would literally melt in you mouth!!
When I studied aztec couisine at the Uni (yeah, we study that stuff too!) I think I read that they didn't have any oil, hence everything was either braised or boiled, so no donuts. I personally have never tried to fry a dough made of corn flour but I might try. I absolutely adore corn flour.

Oh we do love our corn flour. A common snack is piping down some masa into boiling oil and cook them like little churros. That's actually what we call them, churritos.
It's not a sweet snack so feel free to add them to any dish as garnish or eat them with salsa.
Mix in some sesame seeds or other seasonings into the masa and you'll have a great snack.
