Could anyone help me out here. Maybe's its because i'm young but I don't see the appeal. There's nothing useful or close around you, no sort of public transportation.

Could any of the Suburbanites help me out here. why did you move or favor the Suburbs to a more Urban city environment..

Tranquility. More Space. Less crime. Fresh air. Freedom of having your own form of transportation. Big house, rather than small apartment. Nature: natural woods in my backyard; fish pond; lots of great wildlife (deer, chipmunks, etc.) And pretty much every store you have in the city is within a 20-minute drive for me. I work in New York during the day, and it's great, but Long Island is where I live.

Pretty much what Burning_Spear said. I grew up in Chicago till I was six and have lived in a suburb in Northern California once. IMO theres good and bad in both. What I find funny is that you list all the negative aspects of living in the Suburbs and Burning Spear listed all the positives, which I agree with the both of you.

However in the end its just a matter of opinion. If you like living in a big city better than the suburbs than you are going to see all the negative stuff of the suburbs and vice versa.

The other thing is that if someone has to explain the virtues of the suburbs, then the suburbs probably aren't for you. People tend to make their home in whatever area just makes sense for them.

I do see your point about it being peaceful. I visited someone I knew in the suburbs and pretty much lounged around all day. It just seems that being at that type of environment 24/7 seems boring.

I mean I wanted to invite a few people over and throw a Party but we couldn't in respect of the neighbors. Contrast that to an Apartment where no one really cares. On the plus side having a pool to ourselves was cool.

indeed, and the same goes for the suburbs, really — sometimes you're in a nice area where the neighbors give a crap, and sometimes you're in a party kind of place, lol. our neighbors across the street usually have get-togethers at least once a month where cars line the cul-de-sac, but they've never been mean or a hassle otherwise, so we don't bother saying anything :3

"Suburbs" must be very different elsewhere in the country. To me on Long Island, what your'e describing would be called "rural". Long Island is mostly all "suburbs", and there's plenty of all that stuff around. But perhaps here, "suburbs" just means "not The City".

The suburbs are boring, its always quiet.

Living in a suburb you get the benefits of living near a large city without having to deal with all the annoyances of having to live in that city. Suburbs are better for the family oriented person.
