Topic: what's so special about pokemon?

It's reliant enough to keep you playing. Although it's very simplified for younger players. But that don't keep it from being fun. You stop bad guys, have a rival, you save the world by fighting/capturing a legendary pokemon and you beat the Pokemon Champ. In Pokemon Black/White there's more story, if you're looking for a bigger story.

I would buy another pokemon game, but what made me stop buying them is from the fact that there's events and stuff at game stop where they give out pokemon for free, I don't live by a game stop and since it's content that's not in the game it's like paying full price for a game for a game that's not finished, at least sell the pokemon online or something.

Pokemon is well-loved because of its immense variety, its superb pacing, and because it has what is arguably the largest meta-game in any video game in existence.

It's basically a turn-based RPG at its prime in terms of battle mechanics.

@undead_terror I think of it more as free DLC. Even though you aren't able to obtain it, its not like the main experience is really hampered. Also, if you feel the game doesn't have enough content as it is... well, lets just say your in the minority.

@Happy_Mask really,Gen 3? I loved Emerald, no hate, the best Pokemon game on GBA. But the perfect Pokemon game In my opinion was Gen 2. Cause you had the day/night clock thing going on, You could visit Kanto, red Gyarados, and you fight RED. Introduction to breeding, tons of legendaries,

Gen 3 was awesome in it's own right but Gen 2 was the peak of Pokemon games.

But it did lack berries, and frankly, was too easy. (excluding red) But it also had a very nice remake that brought it into gen 4. :3.
I prefer 3 though, because it had the perfect amount of pokemon, that were (for the most part) extremely creative. And it also had a ton of pokemon from the previous gens, and understood that gym battles should have an actual gap in-between them. Furthermore, it had a very nice set of legendaries, and a good( this is what I think two triumphs in) story. It's easy to see why someone would love gen 2, I like it myself, but I just find gen 3 to be superior.
Also, does anyone know where to find a bagon in B/W 2? It's my favorite 'mon.

Every main game has a story, actually that's the only mode, it's in story mode where everything takes place, even after the story is finished.

@Undead_terror: I dislike it when they make these events place-specific (like only at gamestop), but to be honest, we're not missing much. It's not like we will ever use that <insert random legendary pokemon> anyways.
They're a bonus for people lucky enough to live near the events.
If everyone had the same mindset, noone outside of Japan and the main US would ever buy the games.

As for the actual topic... I think part of why it is so popular is all the time you can invest into it while still having a ways to go. I invested (Yes, I'm an addict) about 310 hours into Pokemon White before I restarted it and gave it to my brother to play yesterday. And with White 2, I plan to spend longer. The mechanics are so deep and wide, which is why the game is so huge on the Internet: you can spend hundreds of hours trying to get a perfect team together, because it'll earn you "respect" amongst your Pokeman fan group. But I suggest don't try to get TOO into competitive play... it's really complicated The difference between B/W to previous gens is that they added new 'mons and a new region, Unova (Which is surprinsingly huge). The difference between B/W2 to B/W is that the sequel is more expansive in terms of exploration and story. And if you're looking for a Pokemon game to start on... I would suggest Ruby, Sapphire, or Emerald in terms of really good quality (However all of the games have that quality), or SoulSilver/HeartGold if you want to start at a good point with loads to explore. (Sorry for the long reply, I'm a person who just can't stop on Pokemon )

another thing; what's with all this silver/heart and black/white thing? are they the same game? Are they the same game sold separately, do you need to play both to get the whole story? is it in a similar fashion to the zelda oracle games?

Different games have the same story (Or in Ruby and Sapphire's case, similar stories) but with different exclusive pokemon and more recently, different visuals and battle types. So no, you don't need both to get the whole story.

I haven't played LoZ too much, but to answer your question, each new generation of Pokemon comes with slightly different details, i.e. in White you get Zekrom (That big black thing that's the mascot for the game), and in Black you get Reshiram (The white mascot). It also slightly affects things like locations sometimes. In White you can get to White Forest, while in Black you can get to Black City (Or whatever it's called). Here are some links for version differences you might want to look at-
http://www.serebii.net/blackwhite/exclusives.shtml (If you are considering Black/White)
http://www.serebii.net/blackwhite/versioncity.shtml (If you are considering Black/White)
http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/exclusives.shtml (HeartGold/SoulSilver)
http://www.serebii.net/emerald/missing.shtml (Pokemon in Ruby/Sapphire that are not in Emerald)
http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Ruby_and_... (Ruby/Sapphire, skip to Version Exclusives)
It looks like a lot, but I do suggest you look at some stuff before you decide what version you get. Or you could just pick randomly

(my opinion) I would start with emerald or ruby.

BUT. If you want to start with a DS version I would start with Diamond or Pearl.
(then if you enjoy that move onto heart gold or soul silver ect.)

It's found in one of those Hidden Grottoes. Pinwheel Forest to be exact. At levels 55-60. And it can be found in White Forest.

No, both payed the same price for what they got. The only difference is that the people who went to the event put time into their day to go to it. They still bought the exact same game as you.

In Black and White, 4 Pokemon (yes, 4) were given away at gamestop. Mathmatically speaking, that is barely more than half a percent of the amout of pokemon in the game, and you'd never use them anyway. Please explain how that is a rip-off.
