Topic: What would you do if your significant other asked you to give up video games?

I have actually been in this situation where I got an ultimatum where I had to choose between a girlfriend or games. I told her to go lol. This wasn't the only reason behind my decision, but still what would the rest of you do?

I'd have to choose games. Not because I care about games more than anyone else, but if I'm with someone who doesn't like me for who I am, I don't need to be with them. I can understand if they want me to pay more attention to them or something, but if I'm with someone who hates video games so much they demand I give them up...sorry, not gonna happen. That's a part of who I am.

not that it'd ever happen, thank goodness, but... sorry -- love me, love my games. or at least tolerate my playing of them and go do something else for a while. :3

That depends on their reason for making me give up videogames, and to what extent. If I were eating away my life by playing too many videogames, and that person was worried about me, then I would do my best to give up games. If they don't like videogames, and don't want me to like them either, then I'd ask "how can you be so selfish?". Now, if that girl were a potential bride, and truly cared about me, then I would do anything to change myself for her (as long as that change is good for us). But I will never give up videogames for some girl that will probably dump me within the next month.

The most logical replyif they gave you ultimatum? Giving them a note saying:

"Dear Baby,
Welcome to Dumpsville. Population: you."

If it was given as an "it's me or the games!" ultimatum with no solid reasoning behind it (asides a weird personal vendetta), then one or both of us has clearly seriously misjudged the other's character going into the relationship in the first place, so in the long run we'd probably end up splitting anyway. I'm not sure how I'd react in that situation, knowing me I'd probably try to keep the relationship afloat for a while before realising that this was dumb.

Of course, if she had a valid reason for it, if I was playing games waaay too much and it was getting in the way of the relationship, then I'd give them up. She'd be way more important than Super Mario (although I hope I'd have realised that long before it had reached that point), so if I'm the one being a colossal idiot, I'll be the one to take responsibility for it.

Sucker. You do that and you'll never hear the end of it. The trick is to pretend it was never your fault no matter how bad it looks. Then when she gets exasperated and drops it altogether, you win. That's the key to a healthy relationship.

idk... in my experience, the knowledge that no one person can be right all the time, not even you, and the understanding that it's okay to be wrong is the key to a healthy relationship. unfortunately, both parties need to be at that level of maturity together -- if one gives the other hell for it, that'll drive a stake through a relationship pretty quick. :/

YES I would, If she was absolutely right though, not just if we had a lot in common (because then she wouldnt ask me to give up Video Games because we both would love video Games)

Yeah Robo it was more of her wanting me to do the same stuff she does. She didn't like anything taking attention away from her. Not even a little bit, which is what my gaming habit turned into. lol like i said though, not my only reason for dumping her. She needed attention 24-7 and it was just too much.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

And that opinion is why you will never win.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.
