@Lloiddd Yeah, once you've finished the bottle/bottles, you bring 'em back to the supermarket, and get your deposit back.

Coors Banquet Beer. I needed something appropriate for an all day basement reclamation project. It’s working out well, it ended up being just what I needed. Got a sixer of Shiner Strawberry Blonde I’m probably going to switch to soon though. It’s delightful. It’s beer forward with a natural strawberry flavor finish. Summer seasonal.

@Lloiddd - Left Hand are real solid. Their milk stout is highly recommendable. No shame in the Not Your Father’s stuff either. They have their place. I love a good, spiked root beer on a hot day.

@ThanosReXXX - What did you see at the cinema?

@bimmy-lee Hey man, how' you doin'? I'm almost ashamed to say, but I finally found the time to go and see what kind of havoc my avatar wreaked upon the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In other words, I went to see The Avengers: Infinity War part 1.

Part of the reason that I went to see it so late, is also due to the fact that most of my friends are either married or living together, and I've been single for almost 1,5 years now, so I've got all the time in the world, but meeting up with friends who are often times otherwise engaged, can be a bit of a problem, so usually, a lot of planning and shifting of obligations is required.

This time around, I was kind of lucky to have one of my best friends being free of any obligations, due to him having his summer holidays, so I was able to persuade him to come along. Would hate to go to the movies by myself, so that's why it often ends up in me downloading them instead, months after.

But I felt that this one specifically, was one of those movies, that you simply HAVE to watch on a bigger screen. A home viewing simply doesn't compare, no matter how professional your setup, unless you've actually got a home cinema hidden in your basement...

Oh nice you get them there too? Yeah CO has a huge microbrew scene. Pretty much anywhere you go there's a huge selection of craft beers.

I tried brewing my own in the past...and it wasn't good. It exploded and the results were disgusting. lol

Denver's got tons of mini brewery slash restaurants (there's even hipster Indian/Asian restaurants that have their own craft beer lol). Only other place that like that I've been to like that was Portland. Microbrews on tap left and right.

Obviously not complaining. Curry with goat milk stout is pretty vibe.

@ThanosReXXX - Doing well, thanks. Trust it’s the same for you. I haven’t seen Infinity War yet either. I fall into your set of friends who are temporarily consumed with obligations. Mine are keeping a couple small humans alive. We had kids late, so I definitely remember times like you describe where my wife and I were up for anything, but everyone else was tied up with kiddos. Especially after we moved back to our hometown after about a decade long run away. While I’ve missed out on most of the “must be seen in theatres” movies for the last four years, I agree wholly, there are some experiences that just can’t be replicated at home.

@Lloiddd - Love trying craft beers wherever I go. Even better if it’s the only place I can get them. I’m in the Midwest now, and we’ve had Left Hand for quite a while. I lived in Portland for a while, and really enjoyed the beer scene. I should make my first Denver visit next year, and I’m looking forward to trying some local goods. Curry and stout sound great!

@bimmy-lee Good to hear you're doing well. Same here, other than nearly succumbing to the heat (local daytime temp is around 90°F and 60-65% humidity).

And after having seen the movie, all I can say is that you shouldn't let this one pass you by. It has the biggest roster of super heroes ever seen on the silver screen, and missing out on seeing it in the cinema would be a crying shame. I hope your lady is into Marvel, and if so, find a kind soul to take care of your kids for one night, and go and see it; you won't regret it. It's definitely a "must see in the cinema", even if you are only ever so slightly interested in anything Marvel.

P.S.

Being the age that I am, I always tend to either feel sad or get the inclination to smile ironically, when people far younger than me, mention having gotten kids late in their lives. And in case you're wondering: I'm 48, but the wish to have them, is still there. My path in life simply hasn't given me any opportunities to come anywhere near to being close to fulfill that wish...

@ThanosReXXX - We’re actually in the process of choosing a babysitter, and a simple dinner and a movie night out is first on the agenda. Our kids are almost four and two, we went all in the last four years and have done embarrassingly little for ourselves, so it’s time.

I only mean “old” in the sense of average age that one becomes a parent. I don’t even know what it is, and could skew wildly from place to place, but in my experience; we’re a good decade “behind” most people our age. I’m fine with that. I couldn’t have been a good dad 10 years ago. Truth be told, we left it up to fate for a long time, and then one day the stork stopped by. Twice.

I’m a leave it to fate/we are what we’re supposed to be person. While you may not learn the lessons that reproduction can teach us (unless one day you do), you’re also free to explore and learn in areas that I can’t fathom right now. My kids fill my heart with unimaginable love, but they also bring me fear and anxiety at an equal level. It’s why I’m probably 14% less sane than I was before this all started.

@bimmy-lee I know you didn't mean any offense, and I haven't interpreted anything of what you said as such, but it's more that it haunts me personally. Never wanted to be or planned to be a "grandpa" dad, but it seems that this is exactly what life has in store for me, if I ever get any kids in the first place.

Funny thing is, that I'm the most kid friendly person in my entire family, circle of friends included, and I've been kid-ready for decades already. I have more patience than any of them combined, by a land mile, where it concerns kids, and for some reason, I can still relatively easily place myself in their world or point of view. A part of that is because of me being highly empathic, and also because I've always been a creative soul. The empathic part has even been officially diagnosed...

As for the rest of it: I would actually become more sane than I am right now, and most definitely more than 14%, if my extended family wish would finally come true. Not having it, and time passing by/slipping through my hands relentlessly, is actually driving me more mad than any family situation ever could,
so I would say count your blessings for being in the situation that you are. I would love to trade places with someone like you, in the blink of an eye. Wouldn't even have to become younger, just the whole wife, kids, white picket fence situation, and perhaps a dog and a fish tank would already be more than enough...

Damn, Saturday night cuba libre binging is doing me in. We'd better skip all this heavy talk and get back to the actual beer thread...

@bimmy-lee Thanks for the compliment, much appreciated. And get that sitter and take your wife and go see that movie, trust me...

P.S.

"Still" working in your basement? Have I missed something somewhere? Can't remember you having mentioned that before...

@ThanosReXXX - You’re welcome. We will too, we both want to see it. Sorry about the confusion, post #85, I updated my beer status and let everyone know I’m working on a basement reclamation/organization project, which is definitely less than riveting information to share in hindsight.

@bimmy-lee Ah, okay. Actually did read that, but since it was such a casual mention and small part of the comment as a whole, I probably blotted it out.

As for it not being riveting and/or exciting: depends on what the final purpose of said basement is going to be. Man cave for either game or beer supply keeping purposes sounds more than riveting enough to me...

@ThanosReXXX - We’re updating as if we’re staying here forever. Short term, I’m clearing out for some foundation repair, minor plumbing updates, flooring, some drywall work, and paint. It’s going to be a rec room/arts and crafts room for a while. Long term, it’s my arcade though.

Edit - And hopefully brewery, cellar, and there’s a little room in the back perfect for a steam room. Some day.

I saw a video of a Germany-living YT'er that said that they have warmed beer in Germany...I didn't know that. I know Germans eat warm potato salad but did not know they drank warm beer on occasion too...I wonder how it taste like.

I can see myself drinking warm beer unless I'm eating it with something...

Octane

@Lloiddd Living close to Germany and going there on many occasions, I've never heard of 'warm beer'. And I've been to the west, east, south, almost any place. Now, similar to mulled wine, or Glühwein, they have a similar product made with beer; Glühbier, but it's less common, and I wouldn't call it beer. It's more like a cocktail that happens to contain beer.

I've never heard of warm potato salad either... At least, not the kind you're probably thinking of, the one with mayonnaise.

I don't know that they count, and I only drink twice a year (independence day and new year's day), but I had hard lemonade and hard root beer. They were quite good. I don't enjoy most alcoholic drinks, though.
