what was your favorite Castlevania game? what system was it on?why did you like it more than the others you have played?

i will have to go with castlevania: dawn of sorrow for the nintendo ds. i loved how you could absorb "souls" and use them as weapons . Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance was the first game in the series to introduce the "soul system" but dawn of sorrow played alot better for me and of course the graphics were a tad bit better.

Simon's Quest. And only the original is even close to that.

Plain old gamer :)

CV3 Drac's Curse or OoE...OoE is the best version of the Metroidvania style of games, and Drac's curse ditched the atrocious hit detection, scrolling, speed of gameplay, and insultingly easy difficulty level of 2 and basically made CV1+++ with a lot more levels, multiple characters, and multiple level paths. And the music wrecks (read: entire series).

Simon's Quest is just too easy to really be a satisfying CV game completion

Let's see, my favorite should be DS's Dawn of Sorrow, love its soul capturing, big map castle and secrets; but I have this soft spot for GBA's Circle of the Moon, specially its music.

Symphony of the Night... Without a doubt. Not only did it reinvent the series in an extraordinary way, but the execution of it is nearly flawless. Aria of Sorrow came close but was lacking something. I've tried Dawn of Sorrow but since I don't own a DS I've only tried it emulated and trying to "write" those seals with a mouse cursor just ain't all that fun so I couldn't get into it. But seeing as Scribblenauts has made me consider buying a DS finally, I'll perhaps (or most likely rather) give the DS Castlevania games another go.

But for now it's Symphony of the Night. Heck, I've got two versions of it even, both for PS1 and PSP (as a part of Dracula X Chronicles). And if I had a Saturn, I'd get it for that too.

i love the soul system as well. isn't it addictive? i had every soul.some were useless but i just had to have everyone's soul.

Simon's Quest was awesome, definitely my favorite on the NES, though I'm somewhat uninformed as I have yet to play Castlevania III.

I played all of the DS games before ever touching Symphony of the Night, which I only recently played and beat (on the PS One). SotN was absolutely excellent, and is still worthy of the purchase if you own a Playstation or a PSP. Of the DS versions, Dawn of Sorrow > Order of Ecclesia > Portrait of Ruin. That's not to say that Portrait of Ruin or OoE was bad, because they weren't. All three were awesome, but Dawn of Sorrow was the best. .

With that said, the best were Dawn of Sorrow and Symphony of the Night. I simply can't say SotN was better than DoS yet, as I haven't replayed it yet. Dawn of Sorrow has stood the test of replay several times over already, and remained as fresh as ever.

Wow, I can't believe so many of you like Simon's Quest... and one of you actually calls it easy!

I only ever played it briefly on an emulator, and I found it impossible. I really want to like it though. I should give it a try on VC again, maybe? Maybe. I find the pre-SotN Castlevania game play way too hard though, and often cheap.

Symphony of the Night is easily my favorite Castlevania. After Mother 3 it's probably my favorite game, actually. The first two DS ones were good, too. And I liked one of the GBA ones, though I didn't finish any of them.

Come on, friends,

Simons Quest and Dawn of Sorrow.

I have yet to play them all, but so far my favorite is Castlevania (Dracula) X: Rondo of Blood. Fantastic, and you can just whip through the game as Maria (lol). Now one has to ask, when the hell will this be released on VC? And what the HELL does "Rondo" mean???

III / Dracula's Curse -- one of the greatest video games ever created. Hands down the best 8-bit soundtrack ever devised, by a long shot. Those are actually musically complex and nuanced compositions, far beyond the fun-but-not-musically-significant fare of other games from that era.

In second, a tie between Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood.

i found a copy of symphony of the night for 40$ on ebay and got it. one year later got a ps3 then guess what gets released yep symphony of the night and for 9.99$ at that. but it's ok i'd rather have the disc and artwork in my possesion. it was worth every penny too. easily my second favorite in the series.

1. Castlevania (The original and still the best)
2. Castlevania 3 (I believe this is the creator's favorite)
3. Symphony of Night (The best of the Metroidvanias!)
4. Dracula X (Feels like both the older ones and the newer ones)
5. Castlevania 64 (A beautiful 3D adventure)

I like Simon Quest, but what really irks me about that game is how you reappear on the same screen that you died on. It would've been better if there was a checkpoint system. Besides that, It looks and sounds amazing for 1988.

Simon's Quest but only for the music.

Otherwise I'd say Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin.
