I went 14-2 last week, so I finished the season 175-81. That means I predicted 68.4% of the games' outcomes correctly and beat my 67% goal. Yay. I entered a Pick 'Em contest in a casino out here in Vegas and finished 3rd. Most I've ever won in one of those things.
So playoffs start today, and it kicks off with my Chiefs playing at the Colts. Colts were favored by 2.5 at the beginning of the weeks, but betting has moved it all the way to making the Chiefs a 1 point favorite. I've rarely ever seen that, and it makes me nervous for my Chiefs. Why? Because that means around 95% of money being bet on this game is backing the Chiefs, and when the public overwhelmingly backs one team....they usually lose. It's how Vegas makes their money. Pile on the facts that the Chiefs are on the road, that they have very few quality wins (they beat the bad teams on their schedule, lost to the good ones), and the Chiefs have some key injuries on both sides of the line...and I think it all adds up to a Colts win. I hope I'm wrong though.
Game 2 today has the Saints playing in Philly, and the Eagles are 3 point favorites. That seems about right to me, as the Eagles have generally been playing well of late, and the Saints are inconsistent at best on the road. The Saints offense is built on timing and finesse, two things that are unpredictably altered by cold weather. I think the Eagles win by about a touchdown.
Tomorrow, the Bengals host the Chargers, in what most people are predicting to be the biggest blowout of the weekend. The Bengals are picked by a touchdown, and in my Survivor pool (where you pick just one team a week to win, lose and you're out), a whopping 75% are taking the Bengals. Well, I'm not sold on Dalton at all, especially in the playoffs, and the Chargers have been hot lately (their struggle against the Chiefs' backups last week wasn't exactly encouraging, though). If I were to bet on this game (and besides pools, I don't bet on single games), I would absolutely take the Chargers to cover those 7 points. In fact, I think the Chargers will win, overcoming one of the bigger underdog lines in recent memory.
Finally, the Niners are on the road against the Packers, yet are the 2.5 point favorite. It's rare to see two road favorites in a single playoff weekend, which just tells you something about the imbalance of the schedules and divisions in the NFL this year. The key here is that Rodgers is back from a shoulder injury, but last week he shook off a lot of rust against the Bears and looked pretty good despite a couple of interceptions. This is the toughest game for me to predict this week because the Niners are built to beat a team like the Packers, but I think the Pack could begin building some major momentum with Rodgers return. I think the Packers win in what comes down to a last possession game.
Enjoy the weekend, everybody!

Good lord, that was pathetic. I'd rather they just get blown out from the start.

Wow, Luck was just too much clutch for the Chiefs, although I didn't say it here, I joked a few days ago to my father that the Colts are going to go all the way and beat the Seahawks in the Superbowl, It's lookin' pretty possible right now.

Wow, how did my Chiefs lose that one?
I don't get it. The few times the Chiefs ran a zone defense, they stopped the Colts, but for some reason, they opted to use a man to man defense for the majority of the game, despite the fact that it wasn't working. Why oh why would you purposefully choose to continue using a defensive style that isn't working? (especially since some of their best defensive players kept on getting injured)
Well, there's always next year, I suppose.
