Topic: What is the Nintendo Zone Wireless Distribution Box DS Card?

So I was browsing through eBay, looking up various DS and 3DS demo and distribution cards, when I came across this item. I have no clue what it is:

A Nintendo Zone Wireless Distribution Box DS Card

I have done some research, but I can't find anything credible. One of the things I did find is that it may relate to the predecessor of the current Nintendo Zone, the DS Download Station for older DS systems. This service worked via special distribution cards inserted into regular DS units which were locked in a box. The service allowed users to download game demos via DS Download Play and the card acted as a server for the demo to be downloaded from.

But if that's the case, the Nintendo Zone part of the card doesn't make any sense to me. Also, according to Wikipedia you had to swap out the cartridge in the DS systems whenever you wanted to distribute a new demo. Because of that, a card like this doesn't make sense to me in that context. It may also be a card for the current Nintendo Zone, but I find that hard to believe too considering that it's a DS card instead of a 3DS card and that a Nintendo Zone is ususally broadcasted from a regular router. I know it's not a fake too, since there are pictures of other cards available, and there are multiple for sale on eBay. I'm not even sure whether this card is region locked or not, since Nintendo started region locking DS games around the release of the DSi. I've also read some things about it not working in regular DS systems, though once again I cannot confirm that. I looked up videos of it on YouTube, but those don't exist either.

I'm completely clueless as to what exactly this card is. Has anyone else ever seen it before?

EDIT: According to one eBay seller, the card is not region locked, though there once again is no confirmation of this. The seller does have a high credibility rating though, so I guess there's a good chance he's right.

EDIT: Once again did some more research. Apparently the DS Download Stations quickly got renamed to Nintendo Zone. I've seen videos of people downloading demos on their DS via something called Nintendo Zone. That still doesn't explain to me how the card received the demos to distribute (I guess via wifi is possible). This means I'm also not sure whether this card requires wifi to work, and thus is unusable today. I think that's the case, though I don't hope so. Does anyone know?

Sounds like some cool, weird add on that never got successful. I'd buy it, since it's rare.

It's probably what they used in stores and events to let customers download demos to their DS.

I always imagined it would be some sort of computer program, but I guess it would certainly be a lot easier to just set up a real DS to do it.

@Nintendo_Ninja: I'm definitely considering buying it. However, while €30 isn't too expensive for an exclusive Nintendo item, it's still a lot of money, especially for something I'm not sure of what it does. I think it's pretty much the same thing as this though: https://www.reddit.com/r/3DS/comments/2q4sn8/bestbuy_nintendo...
My guess is that it's useless now, due to the old DS online service being discontinued. That probably included any kind of DS online distribution service. It would still be nice to own, but then again, €30 at its cheapest, that's still a lot...
EDIT: Make that €40-€50

What it does is probably... Set your system to sharing mode so other systems can download its demo.

Not sure if each one really does have only one demo. It would seem a bit wasteful. Unless the card is actually a really small capacity specially made for a single demo. Or they could change the demos somehow.

@Morpheel: No, via that Reddit page I found a screenshot. It was very blurry but it was just text saying something about an SSID, so I think it worked via internet which would make it useless now. Still, it would be a fun collectors item to have just for the sake of having it. I'm honestly seriously considering buying it.

@Morpheel: Yeah, I know. It's just one of those obscure Nintendo items that fun to collect for fans of obscure Nintendo items. I am one of those, but most other distribution cards (like Pokémon cards) are rather expensive, and most affordable 3DS demo cards are all in NTSC format. This is one of those things I'd just buy for the sake of it being a weird Nintendo game card. I don't really have anything else in that collection other than maybe my Game & Watch Ball reproduction, so who knows. I've always wanted something random like this, but there's always that doubt of it being expensive and useless. Well, the cheapest auction is still up for one day, so I'll see.
