I'm curious what got you guys started on the Zelda franchise, and when you did, and if you're excited for the new 3DS game.
My story is that I got into Zelda really late, like a couple of years ago barely. Before that, I had watched my cousins play Twilight Princess and even played a bit myself; I enjoyed it but it didn't hook me on the series. Anyways, so a couple of years ago I slept over at my cousin's house and we decided to boot up his N64 and play Majora's Mask. We spent so much time playing that, neither of us having much clue what to do(although he's good, he's been into Zelda games more than I), and got absolutely nowhere. That game is cryptic and confusing as heck. However, it was in a fun way , So THEN I decided to buy Link's Awakening DX on my 3DS, making it the first Zelda game I've ever owned. I liked it a lot, I only got past like 6 dungeons but I mean to finish it soon. I really liked that game and it got me hooked; after, I got the Four Swords free game on my 3DS, and eventually I got Zelda I and II for NES on my 3DS. That's all the Zelda games I own and I haven't beaten any of them but I really like them, Zelda I on NES being my absolute favorite.

With that said, I'm fairly interested in the new 3DS Zelda game. It looks like fun Plus I've never played Link to the Past so repetitiveness isn't an issue.

I had oracle of seasons on Gameboy but didn't become a fan until I got my GameCube the came with the collectors disk with Zelda 1, Zelda II, OOT, and Major as Mask.

This, except I became a fan after just playing OOT..

I'd actually played the original game quite a bit on my dad's NES back in the early-to-mid '90s (often erasing the poor man's data in the process...) and had a friend with a Zelda II cart, but it wasn't until Ocarina of Time that I was really sucked into the series. I still remember getting stuck in Jabu-Jabu's Belly during my initial attempt to play through OoT; it wasn't until several months later that I restarted the game and played all the way through to the final confrontation with Ganon, which blew my tiny mind at the time.

Then Majora's Mask, which is still my favorite game ever made, and Oracle of Seasons solidified my passion for the series; I still remember excitedly following the development for MM and the Oracle series (and Ura Zelda for the failed 64DD before them) through game magazines and ancient game websites.

After that, I started slowly worked my way back through the catalog of Zelda games I had missed out on - with the help of GBA ALttP/Four Swords, the Collector's Edition disc and used carts of Link's Awakening DX. and Oracle of Ages - over the next several years while I played newer entries like The Wind Waker, Four Swords Adventures and The Minish Cap as they were released.

TMC, as it happens, was the first thing I bought after I received my very first paycheck.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm very excited about A Link to the Past 2: Buzz Blob Boogaloo. MM aside, the top-down games for the Super NES and GB/C are probably my favorite entries in the series.

The original Zelda commercial always totally confused me when I saw it on TV, so I was very curious about the game, and when I saw that shiny gold cartridge, I wanted it and bought Zelda II. Unfortunately, that was right when I got my NES, and I was too much of a noob at the time to even get through the first palace, because the controller wasn't instinctive to me yet, and I kept freaking out and running away every time I saw an Iron Knuckle.

Wind Waker. I was given Ocarina of Time by my cousin when I was little, but I wasn't very good at it, and both the Re-Deads and the skeletons that appear in the field at night scared me. Age, and the cartoony style of Wind Waker eased me into the series and made it so that I could play the other ones.

I had A Link to the Past as a kid, but could never pass the 2nd dungeon (desert) for some reason, and went for years without being interested in the series.

Then, I saw the reveal trailer for Twilight Princess, and I knew right then & there that I had to have it. In 2007, I finally got a Gamecube for my birthday (after years of being a PS2 only family), along with Super Smash Bros. Melee, and Twilight Princess. It quickly became one of my favorite games of all time, and is still my favorite in the series to this day.

After TP, I've completed:

  • A Link to the Past (SNES. 2nd Fav)
  • Phantom Hourglass (DS)
  • Spirit Tracks (DS)
  • Minish Cap (GBA. 3rd Fav. Replayed on 3DS)
  • Link's Awakening DX (3DS VC)
  • Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS)
  • Four Swords Anniversary (DSiWare)
  • The Legend of Zelda (3DS VC)

Own, but incomplete:

  • Majora's Mask (N64. My friend gave me his old copy, but it glitches too much)
  • Zelda II: the Adventure of Link (3DS VC. Don't find it to be very fun)

I am very much looking forward to A Link to the Past 2 (and the Oracle games, which I haven't played yet).

Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

E3 2011 I think it was? They had that big Zelda 25th anniversary event? Gave out the free 4 swords. The 4 swords game didn't get me into it though. It was shortly around E3 2011 they released Link's Awakening and said it was a good game to get into the Zelda series with (I've noticed they say that about a lot of them though xD). So I got it and that was my first Zelda game. Than Skyward Sword caught my attention shortly after that.
Since then I've played
Skyward Sword
Ocarina of Time 3d
Legend of zelda
Legend of zelda 2
4 swords 25th anniversary edition
Minish cap (Ambassador game)
I of course knew about Zelda a bit before, but E3 2011 was the moment it started for me.

What got me into the Zelda franchise was Minish Cap for the GBA when it came out. Since then I've played plenty of other ones, but Minish Cap remains my favourite - the elements like Kinstone pieces changing the world made exploring more exciting, and meant that every screen in the game served a purpose (Unlike the empty sprawling worlds of Ocarina of Time...). It may have been short, and possibly small, but that cant stop it from being a great game.

I later went on to play Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks, Link's Awakening, Ocarina of Time, Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link in that order. Now that I have a Wii U I'll be playing Wind Waker HD when it comes out, and maybe I'll get Twilight Princess. Oracle of Ages and Seasons are also only just over a month away! I've played A Link to the Past for a short while but I don't own it - So I'll probably get that once it hits the Wii U VC as well.

My first Zelda iirc was The Legend of Zelda, which I got through the ambassador program. The first that I actually played and beat was Minish Cap. I realized then how amazing Zeldas are, and now am trying to catch up on all the ones I don't have.

Back in the late ’90s I was addicted to everything Nintendo 64. I had a Nintendo Magazine (System) subscription. Zelda was so hyped in it. We rented Link to the Past once, which was a pretty good experience. We had to get Zelda '64'!

I really liked the game, played it endlessly. Then came Wind Waker. Though a beautiful came, I felt it lacked something. Every following instant, though solid, wasn’t so magical as my experience with OoT. Even grabbing LttP again, I felt more awesomeness than the current Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess before it. I guess it’s just the gaming industry of today I just don’t feel good to be in.

Happy_Mask

A Link to the Past was my first Zelda game. The one that really made me love the series however, was Twighlight Princess. I had played the NES ones as well, and WW, but somehow missed the 64 era. Once I played Oot, I thought it was the best thing since the invention of the toaster, and then I played MM, which is the greatest thing in the universe ever.

Majora's Mask. But now that I'm thinking about it,it was too creepy of a game to start with,in my opinion.
