The mascots for the 2012 London Olympics have recently been unveiled....
Wenlock (on the left) is the Olympic Mascot, his name is taken from the town Much Wenlock, which in the 19th century hosted The Wenlock Games which later inspired the modern Olympic movement. Mandeville (on the right) is named after Stoke Mandeville's hospital, which in the 1940's held games to inspire soldiers who had suffered spinal injuries during WW2, and is considered a forerunner of the Paralympic movement.
Apparently, they were created from the last drops of steel leftover from the new Olympic Stadium.
I think they are AWESOME and am pleasantly surprised to see something so fresh and original. What do you lot think?
