Because nobody has mentioned it yet, I thought that it would be fun to mention that this year, for the first time ever, the Weather Channel (U.S.) has decided that it's going to name the winter's big storms.
These names are not officially recognized by the National Weather Service (or by any other weather organisation, for that matter), so you'll only hear them on the Weather Channel (likely just a ploy to try and get ratings).
Anyhow, their first named storm was "Athena", which was a snow storm that hit the northeast a week after hurricane Sandy, and they are currently on "Draco", a storm that is hitting my region (midwest) as I type.
Oh, BTW, their G name is going to be "Gandalf". Seriously.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
On this note though. Here is Oklahoma we are catching the effects of it though. 50 mph winds all night and still into this morning. I was without power from about 230 am to 6 am and that wind is cold. Not so fun to have to take the dogs out to in the morning.

My brother is big into weather, so I have to hear all this stuff all the time.
Anyhow, here in northwest Missouri we got 5 inches of snow. Parts of the city lost power from the storm, but luckily our area was spared (although the lights dimmed a couple of times last night).

South suburban Chicago and ... nothing yet. I'm a bit divided on Draco. I'm glad we're finally getting snow, but driving tomorrow is gonna be hell, and I have to shovel my driveway, and it's a fairly big hill. Like one of those that if you completely shovel while still snowing outside, enough time will pass that you have to re-shovel the parts you did at the beginning.
