Switch, it's why your on this website isn't it? If you want any games besides the shooters, buy a Switch. Plus you get Nintendo games exclusive to the system. Ik there are many other games on PS and Xbox, but most of those games come to the Switch, so that's what I would do, because Switch has the most variety. I have not had any experience with PS4 Pro or Scorpio, but I would still choose Switch because PS4 Pro doesn't seem too different from PS4 and Scorpio seems like just Xbox One that can run better and higher quality
First off — since this is a Nintendo forum there probably will be bias towards the Switch from people here. You should post in Playstation and Xbox centric forums as well for as unbiased a perspective as possible. That being said, many people on this site give fair advice so don't be afraid to take it into account.
In no particular order:
First decide if you want a Switch/Playstation/Xbox. Especially focus on each platform's exclusive games, and see if any pull you toward them. Playstation is the best all-rounder, with lots of great exclusives and excellent third-party support. If you're a huge fan of Halo or Gears, maybe pick Xbox, but currently Xbox's future exclusives don't look too compelling and a large majority of its games will be available on PS4. So I'd recommend not getting an Xbox or Scorpio unless you're a huge Halo fan (and even then there are plenty of FPS games on PS4).
Check out what platform your friends are on, so you could pick the platform they choose to play online games with them. I recommend giving this little importance however, as you should be comfortable with the platform's games above all. But if you need a tiebreaker, it's something to keep in mind. (Though this definitely shouldn't be the deciding factor for choosing a system over another. I chose PS3 back in the day while all my friends had the 360. Never regretted the choice at all, because I enjoyed the exclusives on PS3, but I would have definitely regretted getting a 360 because I didn't like any exclusives on it).
Is AAA third-party support important to you? This includes games like Rocket League, Overwatch, Call of Duty, Destiny, and more. If so, you're best pick is probably PS4 or Xbox One. Switch will get FIFA 18 and NBA 2K18 this year along with Skyrim, but other than that there isn't too much notable support confirmed. That may change in the future, but I still don't see Switch getting much third-party support beyond sports titles (maybe Rocket League as well).
Is portability important to you? Are you able to find time everyday to sit down and play games, or are you so busy that you barely spend time in front of a TV but find yourself often wasting time on your phone when you're out and about? If so, then Switch is definitely for you. Its portability will be so useful that it trumps the current lack of third-party support. If you are able to find time in front of the TV without issue, then maybe portability is less of a factor.
If you choose Playstation, you gotta choose between regular or Pro. If you have a 4K TV or are planning to, then get Pro; otherwise, you won't see much benefit from a Pro and are better off getting a regular one (which can be gotten pretty cheaply). Likewise for Xbox One and Xbox Scorpio.
Couple more things - if you're a PC gamer, then PS4 and Xbox have little to offer you compared to Switch, so go with Switch (unless you love the PS4 exclusives). Also, don't discount the Switch too much based on lack of third-party support. Things could change, and Nintendo and indies offer plenty of games. If you're a big fan of Nintendo's games, I'd go with Switch. A couple years ago I chose Wii U as my primary console, and I don't regret it because I'm a fan of Nintendo games, and the lack of games doesn't bother me because I don't have much time to play. So keep that in mind as well.
@andrew20 If you're in the position to buy another console next year, I'd say get the PS4 now and the Switch next year. @shadow-wolf provided a decent explanation for all consoles. However, as a PS4 owner, I find it hard to not recommend the system. Don't bother with the Pro (or the Scorpio) if you don't have a 4K TV. Although I believe the Pro is only $50 more than the regular PS4, so if you see yourself getting a new TV in the not too distant future, that's something to take into account as well. Anyway, with a huge library that includes games from Persona 5, Uncharted 4 and The Last Guardian, to The Witcher 3, Final Fantasy XV and Horizon Zero Dawn, there are many great games to choose from. I'm currently playing NieR: Automata (well, I popped the disc in!), and I'm still catching up with all the great games that released this year. Nioh and Gravity Rush 2 will follow as well.
Do you own a Wii U? If so, then you can play Zelda on the Wii U, and Mario Kart 8 too. I think the real system seller (for a Wii U owner) will be Super Mario Odyssey later this year. So picking a Switch up next year means you're guaranteed to find a handful of good games from the get-go, and maybe at a reduced price too (nah, who am I kidding!?). Anyway, I think I'm getting the Switch later this year with Odyssey, but I completely understand that buying two systems in the same year is a bit too much, I surely couldn't afford that.
It really depends on your needs. As a time-poor, commuting, working parent, the Switch is ideal. I can carry it around, play brilliant solo-player games in my own time and in my own space (when I get any). Then I can plug it into the TV and let the kids mess around with Mario Kart or, in a few weeks' time, ARMS. The library is small, but unless you've got £1,000 to spend, you're not going to buy more than a handful of AAA games straightaway anyway, on any system. How many can you play at once? Zelda, Mario Kart and a handful of high-class indies is plenty for now. By the time I'm done with them, ARMS, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade and Mario Odyssey will be knocking on the door.
If you're a young buck who mostly plays at home alone on a big screen, I'd also recommend the PS4. Sony wipes the floor with Microsoft in terms of games library, and the Switch has barely gotten started. If you like the big franchises, it has them all.
Shadow-Wolf makes a great point, though. Do you mainly play alone, or with others? You might want to factor in compatibility with friends' consoles and games. But if you like going into a bunker for 100 hours or more, get Persona 5 and a PS4.
However, if you like having your mates over, Switch has some of the best social games since the Wii in Mario Kart, Snipper Clips, (potentially) ARMS, etc. And then you can carry on in the pub...
@andrew20 Shadow Wolf gave you the best possible explanation without coming across as being biased towards any of the three individual companies, which is an incredible feat in itself on this website!
Saying that, I do agree with Octane; buy a PlayStation 4 today, then perhaps consider the Switch somewhere down the line. It's very early days for the Switch, and as a Wii U owner, I see very little reason to buy a Switch at this moment in time given that I can happily play Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 on it.
Outside of those two games, the Switch has a minuscule software library compared to what the PlayStation 4 has gradually accumulated over the past three and a half years.
Quite a lot of the early games can be bought surprisingly cheaply, and a lot of the most recent games are still fresh in people's mind such as Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0, Resident Evil VII, Tales of Berseria, Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, NieR: Automata, MLB The Show 17, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix and Persona 5 to name but ten fantastic games in a space of just four months!
The PlayStation 4 is extremely difficult not to recommend above all the others.
The easier to recommend is the PS4 but you should get a PC if I say so myself. As for the Switch, while it is my favorite console, if the games don't interest you now, wait a few months.
PS4 Pro. Huge library of games, most of them cheap.

It depends somewhat on what you want. Are you mostly into third party AAA games, particularly sports games and first person shooters? That would box your choice into Sony and Microsoft. Are you more into Japanese style games and RPGs? That would be Sony or Nintendo. Are you into Nintendo games? You only have one choice on that one!
Are you into handheld gaming? Again, you only have one choice there.
If you're mostly into western AAA third party games and not into Sony or Microsoft exclusives, Scorpio's whole point is to be the best visual experience for those games other than a PC. That would be a good choice. HOWEVER, Microsoft, in general isn't getting much in the way of unique games and exclusives, so while they may be the best experience for EA, Ubisoft, Activision, 2K games on console, they're not going to have much else. If you're mostly about Ubi, 2K, Acti, and EA, and your friends play online on XBox, that's a reason to get XBox (including Scorpio). If you have other interests,they can be safely ignored.
Sony is the top dog right now. PS4 will have the biggest library and the most people playing online. It will play all the 3rd party games XBox does, AND has Japanese games content and exclusive games for Sony, including great ones. Pro is the same machine, just somewhat nicer graphics for some games, and 4K TV output.
While Switch will have the least crossover and the least Western AAA games of the bunch, a lot of its library will be mostly from Japanese studios and will feature a bigger number of games you can't play on XBox or Playstation (in terms of retail games.) And it's the only system you can just pick up out of the dock and play.
Personally, I haven't touched XBox this gen (I had a 360 last gen). My PS4 is a great machine, but it's collected a lot of dust. And after having my Switch, the PS4 feels kind of archaic. It's more powerful, the graphics are prettier, but a big TV box feels kind of retro after the convenience of just picking up the console and playing whenever I want from an always-on suspend mode.
I'd say if the idea of the hybrid handheld/console STRONGLY appeals to you, it's Switch or nothing. If you're on the fence about it, look at the libraries. The only reason to buy XBox is if people you specifically want to play with have XBox (or you want Scorpio for the best looking version of EA/Ubisoft/2K type games). Otherwise it's PS4/Pro vs Switch. PS4 is 3.5 years old, Switch is 2.5 months old so you can't compare the libraries directly. But you can look at the games PS4 and Switch CURRENTLY have, and look at the games 3DS, WiiU, Wii, and Switch libraries get to see what kind of gaming experience you're buying into with Switch.
Indie games overlap both. Some retail games will overlap (Skyrim, Minecraft, etc.) But generally you won't see TOO much overlap in games between Switch and PS4/XBox, so you have to kind of pick which one has more of the types of games that interest you. For Switch, that includes the inevitable Pokemon, Monster Hunter, etc, plus the already know Xenoblade 2, SMT V, etc. For PS4 that includes the FF7 remake, Persona 5, Kingdom Hearts 3 etc. They're really two different things and it depends on your preferences.
FWIW, I have both, and I haven't turned the PS4 on since getting Switch. I have a collection of top tier PS4 games in shrinkwrap (Gravity Rush 2, Persona 5, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and others), and I keep not opening them and buying Switch games instead because I'm utterly addicted to the pick up and play convenience. Some people don't even use the handheld aspect and don't care though.
