Tell me right away if i'm stepping out of bounds by promoting another website on these forums. I hear a lot of people wanting NL to add some sort of game list online, well until we actually see this around here. My very good friend has been developing this new version of the website for a couple years now on his spare time.

In the beginning we were basically a Phantasy Star Online clan for the Dream Cast, then it evolved into more of an online community with a forum and now it's a more of a 'Feed' based website.

What you can do on VGscore:

  • You can add any game to your library, doing so will post a feed on the main page for everyone to see.
  • Keep a wish list of the games want or intend to buy.
  • Everyone can comment on what you just added, removed or scored. Same goes for you, see someone score your favorite game a 3? Bite his head off! See anyone add barbies doll house to their wish list? Don't let him escape with his dignity!
  • You can score all your games, there are top-lists for highest scored games per system and so on.
  • Every game has a feed of it's own where you'll see who has bought it, added it to wish list and commented on the game itself.
  • You can personalize everything about your profile, if someone goes to your profile they can see your own background and your personal feed where your last activity shows up along with your game library and wish list.
  • The activity bar on the bottom of the screen shows you who's currently online, if you have any personal messages and anything else of importance!
  • We run a daily poll where everyone can vote, admined by yours truly.
  • If you want to hide something from the main page, you can remove any feed you caused yourself from appearing there. For example you added a game to your library but does not wish for it to be commented on or seen, you can opt to delete it while still keeping the game in your library.

What we're not:

  • We do not have a forum that's supported anymore, it's there. but don't expect anything out of it. Everything is basically done through the feeds now.
  • We are not a news website, this means it's dedicated to what i've posted above and not really anything on the journalist side.
  • Same goes for reviews, if you want to add a short review in a comment go right ahead. But as of now this is not something that we do. But with perhaps enough feedback we might add user reviews.
  • We do not support PC games and this will probably not change.

With this said I invite you to try out http://www.VGscore.com we already have a few members who's been with us since 2001 but now we'd love to see some more activity around there and give this website the activity it deserves.

If you have any questions, fire away!

disclaimer: we do not currently run any ads on vgscore, nor does it generate revenue of any kind. this is purely from the goodwill of shaf2k. enjoy!

I don't THINK you're breaking any rules with this post, but I'm not really sure. A lot of us around here have opted to go the Backloggery route for game collection organization, though. True, your site has some features Backloggery doesn't, but the reverse is also true. Personally, I don't feel like trying to get my 300+ game collection updated on more than one site, and I've already made my choice.

It's not fair to compare VGscore.com with backloggery. Both websites accomplishes completely different things, where VGscore is more based on easier library management, scores, interaction on the feed and with eachother. Backloggery does just as it says, keeps a track of your backlog and keeps user guest books.

Also if you ever have any idea of where we could improve the website or features you wish added all you have to do is run it by me and i'll whip shaf into action, rawr! ... who apparently is the coolest person I know according to an angry tell on AIM, nah but he really is always evolving the website should a demand come up for a new feature.

Don't judge it before you've had a go at it, make a profile add some games through the search feature and see after that.

Okay, I've just spent a few minutes snooping around VGscore.com. To be completely honest, it's far worse than I thought when I read your first post a couple days ago. You have to go by what games the site recognizes as existing (it doesn't even have full listings for the pathetically small selection of consoles), and the search box, near as I can tell, is completely worthless (a search for Mario came up with nothing, even though there are several Mario games on the site).

'pathetically small selection of consoles'? It's got all of the current and previous generation of consoles. I don't know about you but that's what is most important right now while we get it all set up.

The games so far has to be manually added by the admins right now so we might not have every game on there, but we do certainly have most of the popular ones. Every search I've done has worked so far, but as you say Mario really does turn up nothing, I'll have to talk with Shaf about that.

Appreciate the feedback of course, although a bit biased since you obviously only went through a few of the features.

I'll say this again, everyone of you will be a part of the development of this website as every suggestion and feedback will be read and answered swiftly. I can't expect anyone of you to care, but if you put some time into it and actually help by providing feedback good or bad in the end I think it will be worth it.

For now i'll see what I can do with as per your feedback:

  • No games showing up for mario (embarassing) lol
  • More consoles, do you have any suggestions?
  • Some sort of game adding open to the public which will only have to be accepted by us, making the process easier and get the games we don't have up ASAP!

Thank you, and point taken. I'll talk to the coder about this. At the very least we'll get a Request Game system up. That way the games that's not already on the site will become available soon after reporting.

At the time of writing this we have 970 games in the database, spread through 8 consoles, that's obviously something that needs improved.

It didn't look like there really WERE very many more features, but it doesn't really matter either way. The problems I already talked about were bad enough to keep me from the site. You don't have NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy, or any other system from the 80's and 90's on there! I can't track my collection like that! I don't think you even had VC or WiiWare on there yet...I can't double-check that, because the site won't let me navigate away from you page on the PS3 web browser! I rely on this browser a LOT, so I can absolutely GUARANTEE you I won't sign up on that site if you can't make it run on it!

Mario problem is taken care of, and that will hopefully fix your complaints with the search box if there's still any game that cannot be found even if it's there let me know.

Request a game is being worked on, if you try the search bar again you'll see a "request a game" on the bottom of every search and if the search turns up nothing it will ask you to request as well basically you'll request a game that's not there it will end up in a list where we'll add them as they come.

We're in the middle of discussing what other consoles we would add if any, we'd love to take requests.

  • Shaf has been working diligently on a new profile default page. It's meant to give you a better overview of the games and your scores, it's still a work in progress but would like to hear some feedback:

http://www.vgscore.com/member/profile.php?id=1

  • Also we have decided to add all the XBLA, PSN, DSiWare, VC and Wii Ware games. Expect games to start showing up soon.
  • You can now make a comment on all of your games in your games library by the update button. Make a little comment about how you like the game, or how far you are in it or whatever - You can see how it works by just clicking on the games tab on the profile i posted above.

  • Profile page has been further improved, it now includes 'Now playing' and an overall score of all your games based on the whole communitys score of your games called Library rating.
    Example: http://www.vgscore.com/member/profile.php?id=13
  • All WiiWare games have now been added to the database, Virtual Console is soon to follow.
  • Changelog is now on the website http://www.vgscore.com/changelog.php
  • You can now tag your game as completed if you have finished the game or not.

If you got the whole "(almost) no games in the database" issue fixed I feel this might evolve into a pretty nice site eventually. If it weren't for the fact that I'm still sorta haunted by how increbibly boring it was to fill in entire my backloggery I might actually have signed up... Atleast once the game database got sorted out...

Firkraag

Thanks for your support everyone! And Odnetnin, you've had more activity there than anyone in recent times, I'm glad you like it!

  • All Xbox Live Arcade games have been added to the Database.
  • All DSi Ware games have been added to the Database.
  • We have decided against Virtual Console for now.

Nice progress for such a short time. Still, I can't help but feel that the basic system using a database for games is flawed, having been exposed to Backloggery. Granted, there's no way to give an aggregate review score for a game on Backloggery, but I usually get that sort of info from small groups of friends anyway, so that doesn't really matter to me.

@tonyp415 welcome

@Stuffgamer1 You're a hard to please, there are several advantages to having a database. I'll just name a few, you can have discussions about a game in the comments section, you can see the overall score for it, we're going to add user reviews sometime soon, without it the feed wouldn't work and your library rating would be void, we can have box arts and have a much better looking game library.

I'm not really worried about competition from backloggery, sure we might not have 100% every game because we're dependant on a database but they don't have the advantages that we have because we take the time of actually making one.
