which is pretty much what the military would probably be getting if they're singling out good players for recruitment, if you think about it, lol

I prefer neither; if there are not enough citizens who are willing, for the right reasons, to risk their lives in a particular war, then it's either a war we shouldn't be fighting, or leadership hasn't succeeded in making a compelling rational case.
Of course, if we were relying on only soldiers willing to fight with being coerced (such as through a draft) we would have been screwed in WWII. It's not that I don't see what you're saying, though.

It's an online game distribution service Valve has.

I'm starting to feel like an elderly person. I've played this game since 2002...
Come on, it's really, REALLY old. I used to play version 1.2 mostly. Back then you had to qualify as a rifleman to even play online (Although you could play some online mode with laser tag or something if I remember correctly)! To use a Sniper rifle you needed to be excellent rifleman during training (some people couldn't even QUALIFY as a rifleman) and it was really really hard to do, so only the "elite" managed to be a sniper in the servers. I recall it took me 2 months to finally do it.
Then they dumbed it down and I stoped playing. But back then it was very enlightening about the army experience and what sort of things you learned there That's coming from a non-north american by the way.
