Multiplayer only games might actually not be a bad proposition in theory. Mainly, It means that companies making a multiplayer game don't have to slap on a lazily put together single-player mode. BUT they also must support the game (and I don't mean double the amount of DLC, I mean update the game with bug fixes, hold events, and add some DLC.) have a local multiplayer option, and generally try to be accepting of newcomers, without isolating the hardcore fans.

Odd considering some of Nintendo's most popular games are sequels that reuse ideas from past games.

While you've got that dictionary open how about looking up the meaning of the word "context". You don't seem to know what it means.
I think the idea of a Gamepad-less Wii U is a terrible one.
I agree. Because then idiots who didn't do their research will have a tough time with games that require the gamepad or heavily utilize it and probably whine all over the place about the choice they made and cry us an ocean because Nintendo won't sell them a gamepad by itself, or some other ignorant gripe.
Talk about a theoretical and probable double edged sword.
Reality: I HATE THE GAMEPAD
Theoretical: I DONT KNOW WHY THEY PUT OUT A WIIU WITH NO GAMEPAD WTH NINTENDO
But you... just said you didnt want..... Consumers.

They sell relatively well and get good reviews. What more do you want, your seal of approval?
Current games: Everything on Switch

They sell well among a silent majority of casuals that don't really care much about what they're playing and get good reviews from sites that constantly shill Nintendo and give most of their games high scores anyway. That's not really saying much.

So in other words, yes?

Not really, no. It's not really popularity if there's no genuine interest in the game.

I'd love to see you prove this.

There is genuine interest in the game. Just not from the "core gamer" crowd.
Bayonetta 2 evoked a lot of genuine interest from the core gamer crowd, but it still wasn't popular.
I obviously don't agree but I do feel the gap between the biggest mainstream games and games gamers care about is becoming MASSIVE. Noticed this since I looked at the top 10 selling games of 2013 and only like 2 of them mattered to gamers while games like Bioshock Infinite and the Last of Us weren't even mentioned.
Even though in sales wise the Wii U fails and even though I haven't gotten one, I feel as though the Wii U is the best system of this gen simply because of the amount of games that you get.
Kind of like how Dreamcast is the best system of the gen despite PS2 beating it. Honestly, the only reason that the PS2 won is because its used as a dvd player more often than an actual game console something which the dreamcast still is.....that being said, I'd like to try and get a dreamcast myself someday.
@Freeon-Leon: Perhaps there are unlocks I don't know about, but on initial play it seems that:
there's no option to customise anything
there's no sense of who's piloting the machines, or any rivalry between them, other than a name and the most basic of points systems
you seem to spend most of a race with little sense of where competitors are because the speed is such that distances between racers open up very quickly, and the movement is so rapid that you need to focus on where you're going and not the brief flashes of other racers ahead. Felt more like a rally experience than a heated racing battle.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
@kkslider5552000: Yep. I can almost guarantee you that the next Call of Duty game will generate more sales than FF7R. The Last Guardian, and Shenmue 3 combined, for instance.

And that's exactly the problem, there's a huge disconnect between quality and sales to the point of being almost complete opposites.
