Topic: UFC

Anyone else a fan of MMA? I love it. It can be somewhat gruesome, but that's not why I watch it. Some of the fighters are so skilled they can win a match without anyone getting a scratch. The TUF show is pretty lame, except for the final fight on each show. Favorite fighters: Yoshihiro Akiyama, Lyoto Machida, and BJ Penn.

I'm kinda outta the loop, UFC = Ultimate Fighting Champship, right? If that's what it is, I can't stand it. Almost as bad as reality tv imho. While I'm at it, I'll throw "wrastlin" in there too.

I have no interest whatsoever, in watching people bash the crap out of each other, seen enough of that in my life thanks. It makes me laugh when we call ourselves a civilized race, then take joy from watching 'sports' like this.

So you don't like boxing either? To each his own, I guess. Boxing seems more brutal, in my opinion. In mixed martial arts, if someone is close to being knocked out, the ref stops the fight. In boxing, they let a half conscious man continue to fight if he even manages to stand after counting to eight. It's all kind of brutal, though, so I can't fault anyone for not liking it. We've never been a civilized race, anyway (see: bullfighting, dogfighting, cockfighting, gladiator fights, etc..).

I'd much rather watch football then watch people punching each others faces!

I like UFC while they are on their feet but as soon as they hit the deck it can all get a bit too gay for my tastes

All wrestling these days is is just a soap opera with some fighting thrown in the mix. Never watched UFC though. I hear it's real fighting.

I like it when they hit the floor. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is cool to watch, if they're real good at it anyway. That's where the real skill guys are.

I don't watch UFC but I think the sport as a whole is OK, if 2 consenting adults want to get in a cage and knock lumps out of each other then that is their choice. I know a few people who do cage fighting and lets just say it is better for them to let their aggression out in a controlled environment than getting into trouble fighting outside the ring, and chanelling their energy into the sport does seem to stop them getting into trouble in the rest of their life.

True, I wouldn't want a sweaty guy on me, but I'm not looking at it that way. I don't have to worry, though, since I'm a weakling and probably couldn't beat up Betty White.

I love UFC. It's very entertaining, there's a ton of technique, and I dunno it's a blast to watch w/ a group of fellow beer guzzlers when everyone gets all loud/crazy and it's like testosterone overkill. Quite a joyous event and looks great in HD. Boxing just takes too damn long...but yeah one of the only sports I can follow/enjoy. They aren't spoiled and out of touch yet, unlike virtually every other professional sport.

And that's why I said what I did. Don't get me wrong, I used to love all that (I'm only human), nowt wrong with a bit of violence grrr, I've watched worse on nature documentaries, life's a bitch, etc. But, I changed a while back, and now, whilst I could easily take pleasure in watching a fight, I choose not to. I intend to transcend you see, and this is just part of the plan.

Violence in games/movies however, I love, but then it's not real and I know it.

I hear what you're saying. Gaming violence (smash brothers, resident evil, no more heroes, etc. ) is much more satisfying to me, since there isn't actual people involved. I just like the sport, and it's completely separate from my gaming experience. I was just curious about other gamers' involvement in things that don't relate to gaming.
