I just got done watching season 1 through 3 of this wonderful TV show yesterday. I never watched it on TV and I am saddened that I didn't, but also happy I didn't since I didn't have to wait a week for the next episode. I can't believe more people haven't watched this show. Any of you all given it a try or like it? I didn't think I would, but I splurged on season 1 (15$) and became addicted. So, I probably should'ave titled this post "Your Thoughts on Friday Night Lights"

I never saw it because I am not a fan of sports movies / shows, but I have been thinking about watching the movie simply because Explosions in the Sky did an awesome soundtrack for it. Do you know if they worked on the TV show, too?

Come on, friends,

I'm not sure, but according to the comments on amazon.com they used a different soundtrack for the dvd releases because of licensing issues, dunno if thats true.

I hate the movie. The team featured just so happens to be the rival football team of my former high school.

The team on the TV show is a fictional team based on the team in the movie.

The movie and book is based on the Permian High School that's here in Odessa where I live. I've never watched the TV show though. One of my friends played on that team in 1988.

Instead of the Permian Panthers (I guess that was the real mascot as well) they are the Dillon Panthers in the TV show. I think the TV show is like 10 times better than the movie, except for the second season when they were trying to go out in crazyville for storylines.

Is it really a football or die town like the show represents it to be, Corbie? That's cool that you live there.

This revival is probably going to get the topic locked.

Friday Night Lights is easily the best TV show I have ever seen. The first season (especially the pilot) is just immaculate, and while the second season goes downhill a bit, it starts getting better again with the exits of Street and Smash (two of the best characters, ironically), and both the premiere of Season 4 and its sixth episode, The Son, are more emotional than just about anything else on television. Season 5, the last season, ends on a fantastic note as well. I really hope they get around to making that "X amount of years later" movie that Peter Berg talked about.

This is not a football show, but it's a show about people living in a town that, for better or worse, they can't bring themselves to leave. Highly recommended, obviously.

@Adam Vol. 1 of the soundtrack features a song by them, though it's an album-only purchase: http://www.amazon.com/Friday-Night-Lights-Television-Soundtra...
Also, the movie wasn't nearly as good as the show, so I wouldn't bother watching it. FNL the TV series is on Netflix and Hulu and stuff, though.

@Corbie That's pretty mind-blowing to me, as I've read the book as well. Do you still live there? And is it like the author describes it?

we watched FNL in the shop last year. It was a pretty good show, but nothing I would've actually watched while it was on TV. I think i'd go crazy if i lived in a town that obsessed with football, lol.
