Topic: Too Old For Video Games?

Why would 18/ M rated games exist if people that are 18 or over are to old to play them. Ignore all those idiots. I'm only 15 but I doubt I'll ever stop playing games but I'll probably find it harder as I get older because of having less time. In an issue of Official nintendo magazine, one of the letters was from a game in his 60's so you're definetley not too old. BTW happy birthday.

I don't need to read a single post to know the answer to the topic question is "no".

@kkslider: Well, the answer really is no. I think most people would agree that restricting video games to people under a certain age is a violation of personal freedoms. Unless, of course, they discover that it is somehow dangerous for people over a certain age. Then it somehow becomes okay to make a law violating their personal freedom. But let`s not go too in depth in this; bad things happen.

Look, the main point is, whoever is telling you this is kind of an idiot.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

Well my my uncle is 30 (i think) and he still breaks out the SNES and PS2 every now and then.

I know I'll never stop playing video games, I even know someone who's in his 50's and still plays PS2. I also know plenty of people married with kids who keep on gaming. Games know no age.

Happy birthday! Another tidbit - I'm 25 and engaged, and my fiancee supports my gaming to the extent that she bought be a PS3 last Christmas. If I asked her if she thought I was too old for video games, she'd slap me and force me to play Dead Space, because she'd know that I should do what makes me happy. Those who tell you otherwise think they have your best interests at heart, but stay true to yourself and one day you will be able to have a happy life with both video games and the things that those who tell you you're too old are implying that they prevent.

Here's my advice:

If someone tells you you're too old to play video games, that person is too old to be giving out advice you should take seriously.

Exactly.

I'll echo what people said here. Like any other hobby, you can't be too old for video games. As long as you have friends you see in real life and not just in your WoW guild, you're fine.

I would play video games after work a lot. My dad asked me if I was "addicted" to games. I think they had a special on Fox News on video game addiction or something. I didn't play games any more than he watched TV, and I was out every weekend. I just found it a great way to unwind after a long day, and it's certainly a more active hobby mentally than watching TV, generally. There is still a stigma, unfortunately, especially amongst some from older generations, which, ironically would probably not exist if they could tear themselves away from cable news for five seconds.

Just try to see where they're coming from with the question and don't worry too much as long as you're spending time with your friends as well (if you have a Wii, you probably are since the some of the best experiences with a Wii are multiplayer). I'm guessing you're about to graduate high school if you're 18, so enjoy your time! Senior year (especially the summer before everyone leaves for college or work or whatever) is a blast! Happy Bday.

You can't exactly forge a future out of playing kickball either, yet no one complains about that. So long as it's in moderation, it's fine. It's not like you play games every minute of everyday, after all. Otherwise you wouldn't have had time to make that post.

I can't wait until I'm old enough to tell people that they're too old for eye brick willies or whatever crazy future activity they enjoy.

I'm 30 very soon and still play. I'm actually playing a lot lately since discovering the joys of portable gaming (ipod touch & gameboy advance sp+). The last 4 or 5 years have taken a toll on the time I have for gaming but I've been making more time for it. I bought a Wii last year because I knew my wife would play it with me and I'm now (as of last week) into the Gameboy Advance. I owned a Game Gear back in the day but have never really thought handheld gaming to be all that alluring. Why buy a lesser quality modern system when you can have something better in a home console? Well now I understand the fuss. I can play it anywhere, in any position, and almost anytime. No TV required. I play it in bed, in my truck (while parked of course), on the couch, floor, at my desk, outside.

Most people don't know I'm a gamer at heart and I have few friends that are into it as much as me. One of my friends who is 28 I believe has games coming out of every drawer of his apartment, and on every flat surface mostly of the retro variety. His girlfriend luckily supports his habit (mostly) and plays games too.

I agree with those comparing TV watching to gaming. There are tons of people that spend hours in front of the TV watching poor programming. 90% of the time I'd rather be playing video games than watching another lame show. It's slightly more productive too because it does get your brain working pretty hard at times. The only downside is if you play late at night it can disturb your sleep. About 9 years ago (wow) I use to dream about Counter-strike almost every night because I played it so much.

My dad is 61 and he just bought a Wii, and he bought a DS a couple years ago too. I think video games are pretty bad for teenagers if they play them too much instead of getting an education, but you're never too old to play video games.

I dont have this problem yet, so I dont know what to say. But the way I see it, if you you enjoy doing something you go ahead and do it, no matter how old you are. Kinda like Freedom day in Futurama.

Im 12 years old and I play TF2. See what I mean?

Not that this is my opinion, but my uncle is obsessed with games and he lives alone with no job in a tiny apartment in Los Angeles. I do not think that you are too old to stop playing games, and with the impressive upcoming lineup from Nintendo is a huge reason not to let up. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
