Topic: Mods. How Did You Become A Mod?

Mods, how did each of you become a mod? I was just reading comment someone said about Users sometimes becoming mods. This made me wonder how this happened with Chicken brutus then. So then I thought it would be interesting for us to read how all of you mods came to be mods.

Mods don't die, they multiply.

I would like to become a moderator and help out with the forums. What does it require to be one?

I saw an advertisement for reviewers on the site a while back, I presume they would do the same for mods, I think they all have to apply by email and I guess the admins choose who becomes a mod when a position is available.

That's right some reviewers are not mods. Maybe I should have included that too? I just wonder if sometimes someone just catchs their eye too. Like Chicken. I'm sure most people notice HIM.

What difference is gold and silver mods?

Silver mods get Lugia earlier in the game.

I think silver = mod, while gold = admin.

Gold shields are admins: they have the keys to the kingdom and can ban people and edit content on the site.

Silver shields are mods: we can edit/lock posts and that's it, so if you get banned don't come running to me or Chicken -- it wasn't us!

As far as how folk get picked, that's something the Admins decide. I was asked. I'm unaware of any shortage at the moment, but I'm sure if they feel more hands are required they'll ask!

Do you get paid or is it volunteer ?

Mods are selected from our community members who show diligence in sticking to the rules, respect other members and set a good example. When we are looking to recruit new Mods, we'll usually approach them ourselves Don't frett, though, we do all read these forums (even if we lack the time to contribute to many threads) so, just like Santa, we know who is naughty and who is nice

As for reviewers, they are more often than not posted on the site so that everyone may apply openly. You'll notice the ad when we are looking for fresh blood.

Get paid? What an amusing concept! Seriously it's all from the heart. I will confess to originally declining the offer so it's not power I lust after; thankfully it's not too difficult with all due credit to our members. Thank you all!

It seems to have been adequately covered already. It doesn't hurt to contact them with your interest in helping, as long as you're professional and keep it to the point. Even if they don't need anyone at the moment, they may think of you later because you took the initiative to express an interest.
