Ahoy hoy, first time poster and looooooooooooong time lurker here.
(I debated retracting one of the above "o's" but ended up deeming it a fair judge of time

Over the last few months I've been becoming increasingly attracted to the indie gaming scene, (no shame) and so I've been flirting with the dev side of things lately. Now it's easier than ever to get right into, and at practically no cost.

My background is in animation/illustration, and I've done a little of that in a few unmentionable mobile games... but just discovering how code works and functions is fascinating.

I've been learning with unity (also no shame) and would like to know if anyone knows of any great places or forums to talk with other game devs or even join/form an incredibly unpolished and possibly unhygienic team! Not so much the technical side of things as there's plenty of resources for that already.
Surely there are others here?
I find my motivation levels sort of wane when I'm not working in a team...

I also look forward to your "Welcome"s or "Get Out"s!

Ah yes I have spotted that topic, cheers. Good to see some insider perspectives, especially on these boards

I'm not particularly aiming for Wii U development right off the bat (I feel like that's overreaching a little bit) hence why I posted in general discussion but of course my post may be better suited to another area? Or possibly another site haha

I'd actually say twitter is the number one destination for game devs and aspiring game devs. I get a lot of links to other useful blogs, sites, videos etc from there. Check out #indiedevhour on twitter, which is every Wednesday at 19:00 UK time (GMT+1). Might be worth asking there if anyone can recommend game dev forums they've found helpful (plus everyone on there just seems to be really helpful and supportive).

I also get a lot of info from going to local meetups of fellow game developers. On the off chance you're based in London, cehck out http://www.meetup.com/London-Indie-Game-Developers/ - especially the monthly pub nights

Other places? The Unity3d forums themselves are also probably not a bad place to hang out. reddit.com/r/gamedev is one of the more useful subreddits I've found. Also worth reading industry publications like develop-online.net, gamasutra.com and gamesindustry.biz

In any case, good luck and have fun!

^^^ Awesome. Just awesome.

Thanks heaps guys! That meetup thing sounds like a great idea, unfortunately I live in Melbourne, Australia so it's probably not worth the trek to London every month for a beer!.. probably...
Will start searching for a local alternative though! And hitting up reddit and twitter

I'd try to join a team here, if I knew how to use anything more than RPG Maker...
@starcatcher77 Hey, I noticed that URL in your tagline. That realllllllly looks like a scam... Have you actually gotten gift codes from there?

Currently bored (while change when I stop being bored)

RPG maker is a great way to start. I would really recommend it for learning basic coding and structure, I got onto it years ago.
There is a certain stigma attached to making a fully fledged game with it though, not having a go at the software but many gamers will ignore any game they know is made with the program.

@starcatcher77: Thanks for the kind offer! What program/s are you using? (^^above paragraph is not aimed at you if you use rpg maker btw)
