Topic: Tips on what system to get

So this whole Pokemon go craze has really gotten me in the mood to bring back some childhood memories. I want to get a handheld system but I haven't had or played anything since my atomic purple GBC over 10 years ago.

Anyone have any tips on what to look into? I was really just going to buy another GBC but I know there's so many new things that I just don't know what to go with.

I'm not trying to spend thousands. Just something on the cheaper end like a GBC, GBA Sp, etc. Any helpful tips are welcome!

Also, advice on which Pokemon game to get would be awesome as well. I really only know GEN 1 & 2 so a game with both of those would probably be best. Thanks in advance, everyone!

I'd recommend you get a GBA SP. You can play the whole GBC & GBA catalog that way, and you don't have to deal with those pesky AA batteries, since it has a rechargable battery included.

If you get the GBA, try to track down Pokemon FireRed or Leafgreen - they are the remakes of the original Red and Green, and include the new Sevii Islands. Otherwise, look for Pokemon Gold, Silver or Crystal - the original Gen 2. Personally, I'd recommend Crystal since it was the expanded third version.

Of course, there is always the option to get the current handheld - the 3DS - and get Pokemon Sun & Moon when they come out, but you don't seem too interested in that...

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

You'd be better going for the 2DS by the sounds of it,I think it's around $80 new.I'm not sure how much an original GBA SP goes for but I can't imagine it being much cheaper than that. You can download the original Pokemon's from the Eshop along with some other GB/GBC classics. No GBA though but there are plenty NES and some SNES titles to choose from. And you'll obviously have the choice of the 3DS library too with many titles now selling for fairly cheap and be able to play DS carts on it.

@OorWullie You do realize that only New 3DS can play SNES games. 2DS and 3DS/3DSXL can't. (At least according to Nintendo).

With a 3DS (or 2DS) you can play every generation of Pokemon. Gen 1 on virtual Console. Gen 2, 4, 5 with their DS versions. Gen 6 and 3 with their 3DS versions. I would recommend a "New 3DS" since Sun & Moon will most likely use that extra power in some way.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
