Topic: This sucks that sucks!/Quality in expression!

Since i wasn't allowed to talk about this subject on my "Zelda confirmed for 2010" post, i have opened a new one. My comments and some of others where deleted becouse they where derailing. Therefore I decided to make it it's own topic.

To my opinion comments like Twilight Princess sucks or NSMB sucks etc are very immature, worthless and simply boring.

It doesn't matter what your opinion of a game is, as long as you put some effort into expressing your opinion. We can always disagree and i love diversity in opinions.

If for example you believe Twilight Princess isn't a good game i would love to know why and am very interested in your opinion.
There is no such thing as a right or wrong opinion, but there are substantial well thought out opinions and simple-minded populistic opinions which often conclude the word suck.

There is a big difference between your initial and opportunistic reaction on a news story and your opinion of a game you had a lot of time to think about!

I would love to get some support on this matter from some fellow members!

Why do people have to explain their opinion when they can just sum it up in a few words?

If i want to say a game is awesome, i have the right to do so without giving a five-page essay along with it. if i want to say a game sucked, i also have the right to do so without giving a five-page essay along with it. it's my opinion, and on the internet, opinions are a dime a dozen. you're welcome to disagree with my opinion, but you derailed the heck outta that thread with your arguing, and that's why i cleaned it up.

in my opinion, it's not worth arguing over. you can't please all of the people all of the time, and thinking that everyone is going to like what you like is foolish. there's probably plenty of things you thought sucked that i thought were awesome, so what's the big deal?

You can effectively sum up your opinion whitout beeing shallow and by actually saying something about the game!

Yeah, saying something "sucks" or "rules" is just shorthand, letting people say how they feel about a game without going into a whole elaborate discussion (which would in turn side-rail whatever actual discussion was going on -- a "New Zelda in 2010" thread is not exactly the best place for a discussion of the good and bad of TP).

(For the record, i loved TP, though i did find portions of it uninspired and derivative. But since i'd probably be happy even if they just did straight remakes of OoT forever, it's all good)

@nintenden I'll be quite honest. My first response was shallow minded, and was the result of skimming through the paragraph you wrote, and not really thinking. This time, I actually thought about what you wrote, read thorugh the text without skimming, and what I found was this: I don't actually agree with you that much. People don't HAVE to write why they think something is good or bad-they have the choice to just state their opinions. Besides, like LZ said, summing it up is just as good-you get their main point, which is what matters the most.

Is this thread going to deteriorate into you continuing to rail blindly against the injustices of other people being allowed to state their opinion succinctly? because if so, i can lock it now and get this over with.
