I can't blame companies for wanting to make money, because that's why they started company. But there is a difference between making the game that you really want and make some money back (like disastrously bad with budget Tomb Raider, which costed 100 mln... and people still complain 5 mln copies in sales was stupid and SE greedy) and just something for the sake of making money and holding gamers by the balls (Titanfall, CoD).

I love 3D World and to me it is the best 3D platformer and Mario of all time - I waited years for a game like this, because 64, Sunshine, Galaxies didn't work for me. There is a difference between praise (which is subjective - I could say that about last 2 Rayman games, Galaxies etc) and blind following ("it's worth x because others said it and it's not otherwise, even though I didn't play it!!111oneoneone"), because something is cool and hip and everyone needs to be doing it (Nintendo hatred, 10/10 for buggy games and defending the 10s, "mehing" or downright hating Bioware for making RPGs more action oriented and being 40 hrs long and praising The Witcher 2 for the identical flaws and even weaker, shorter story, etc.). Also, hate always sells, is more interesting than something good (like nobody wonders why there are only bad news from Nintendo and already there are stupid comparisons to Sega or dropping the WiiU, which is not even worth a facepalm). It's hip now.

As for no 3rd party support, it's hardly a fault of gamers, but publishers, because they're cheapskates and retailers, who want to make additonal money from "next" gen (70-80 euro for a next-gen game anyone?), so why would you pay more for weaker experience (buggy, framerates, etc). Just for the sake of buying it? That's why GTA5 got 25 mln copies, same with CoD - when there's hype, there are sales.

I agree wholeheartedly.

I am not one to give blind praise. Although I may prefer one company, console, or game over another, I'm not going to love each one that I prefer.
I can justify why I absolutely love Super Mario 3D World. I can understand why people prefer Call of Duty. But I'm not going to hate people who love certain games. What irks me is people that don't have a reason to like or dislike a game. Justification. That's all I ask for when people say why they didn't like a game.

Here's an example: I prefer Halo over Call of Duty (exclusive of Halo 4, but we'll save that for later). I like Halo because of its variety in weapons, storyline, and its tactical gameplay, both in single player and multiplayer. I don't like Call of Duty as much because of its seemingly repetitive storyline, poor art design, and its multiplayer design.

Now it would be reasonable for people to disagree with me, and if an acceptable opinion is stated, I will accept their point of view. Of course, I will defend my side, but it doesn't mean I'm narrow minded. It's just that I have to be able to successfully debate my side if I truly believe it.

Part 3: You, the gamer

You may have already known this. You may have seen this coming. I've seen articles on this before, so I'll try to bring up my own ideas and such. Essentially, the gamers are probably the biggest of problems in today's industry. We're complaining about, say, no third party support on Wii U, and really, why isn't there third party support on Wii U? Because Nintendo fans buy Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. We are so biased towards certain games we forget other games, too. I found (and this probably really is just me) games like Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario 3D Land, Pokémon Black, and others to be subpar, but it seems as if everyone (seriously. I've never heard a bad thing about the game) LOVES the game. And it got me wondering: is it me not enjoying the game, or is it everyone else forcing themselves to like the game? I don't mean to offend anyone: if you say you like a game, I'll believe you. But it seems as if EVERY Mario, Pokémon, GTA, Call of Duty, and some other series are ALWAYS met with WAY more praise than they deserve. And do you know what we're doing? We're supporting Part 1 by doing this. If we're blindly supporting certain companies, they will realize this and realize they can continue making subpar games without worry. We gamers, especially us Nintendo gamers, are also unwilling to try something new, which is a problem, and it leads back to why third party companies don't support Nintendo consoles as much as they support Xbox and PlayStation. The other huge problem with us, and I'll freely admit that I'm guilty of this, is hating. We just can't seem to enjoy a game. There's always a problem. There's always a flaw. Always something that they did wrong. My question to haters is: whatever happened to gaming for gaming's sake? I play games because I like playing games. I play the games I enjoy playing. I'm going to (try) not to hate the games I don't like. Yet, there are all these hate thread all the time. Adding on to hate threads are doom and gloom, which I see even more than hate threads. It seems as it tons of these are posted everywhere every day, and they are. Again, why can't we just game for gaming's sake? Stop worrying about the industry. And stop trying to get others to worry. We're creating our own problems, really. This is all negatively affecting the entire industry. If you want change? Make it happen yourself.

As said in Part 1, I'll add onto this if needed, or if I remember something. Bottom line is, we're living is a slowly corrupting industry, and we can change that. I'm not 100% sure why I wrote this thread, but I wanted to state my opinion on all this. Discuss if desired.

Well I have over 100 games for the Wii/GC and at least 70 of them are third party so I know I'm not a part of the problem.

@DashChargedShot: I think we should blame the internet some more so the public will take notice!

But seriously though, I think people are entitlement with internet being around. People assumed they have it rather than earned it. We go on internet to get information of any sources. Now we assumed we are entitlement to know those information including info on the new games. This is probably one of the reasons why we have so much rumors now a days.

Umm… Care to have some gravy?

If you made games in a third party, would you want your games on a system that few would buy your game on? It's finding the line between money and effort. I lean toward effort, but just consider that.

Also, I didn't mean to start a thing with 3D World, but it's just that thinking about how much seemingly everyone loves the game got me thinking about whether people are subconsciously forcing themselves to like certain games; I didn't state it to discuss 3D World.

heck yeah! let's make all kinds of games. why not? time is short. i can play only so many games in one lifetime. just wish i had the money to buy all of them. they don't have to be all mario games though, lol. whats wrong with a new rpg? the genre is almost dead on consoles and it doesn't have to be a Mario game. You know those ain't my ideas about jumping!

That's still thin ice to tread. Sure, hype (and conversely disappointment) can affect enjoyment, but there's no way of knowing for sure until years later.

Fair enough. True too was the fact that Mario may not have been the best series to mention as an example, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. It's just an idea, too, whether it's true or not does indeed require the test of time.
