Sonic games suck in general. SEGA have made a few stunning Sonic games but none of them are what I'd call brilliant. With all the possibilities they could've done with Sonic's speed it always feels like SEGA seems to cap his games at a point. I'll take Sonic Unleashed as an example:
The day stages in that game were easily the best part, switching between 2D and 3D instantly without any let up. Along with the sense of speed it really immersed you into the game and on some stages you could play them again and again (which I did). But then came the dreaded night stages which are the worst part of the package, instead of speed, you're moving around at a snails pace bashing enemies like you're the Hulk. Just... just no...
SEGA seems to make Sonic epic and then eventually just ruin him one way or another which is a shame really...
