Topic: The Seychelles

seeing as how this is a European site(i think) i wanted to ask if anyone has ever heard of the country or been there. my family is from there so i wanted to know cause 95% of the people i meet are like "WTF is that?"

Well, I agree with this topic. I'm actually from Africa myself, so I've obviously heard of the Seychelles. What irritates me most is that many people are incredibly ignorant about other countries and cultures. To me, it's absolutely absurd that people HAVEN'T heard of the Seychelles.

@Mik: i just told you this in chat, but it bears repeating publicly to ward off any more drama, i believe -- in this great big world of ours, it's understandable that there will be people who don't know about the Seychelles or other tiny, out-of-the-way places. those of us who didn't know before learned at least where the islands are located from this thread, and some may have checked out the Wikipedia article i linked previously to find out more. the only way to combat ignorance is with information and understanding. :3

i hardly even know my surrounding citys, and i dont care. that should give a rough estimate of what i think of your island... ahem.. i mean.. never heard of it .

You're so lucky! Seychelles is meant to be really beautiful! I wish my parents were from there!

I know it is a small group of islands somewhere in the tropics. That's all.

I get a lot of "Where's that?" from my fellow Americans when I get back from my travels abroad.
Happened every time when I returned from Malta and was discussing it.
I hate putting down America constantly, but some people here truly are uneducated about the rest of the world.

Dude, I know! What with it being such a world player and all. I mean, how can someone NOT know about an enormous country like that with such a massive population. And check it out on a map: It just pops right out! Why, you'd have to be plain stupid not to know about it.

I went to look for it on a globe. It took a while.
