I don't know, lol. I assume this won't get much buzz here but I wanted to post my fanboyism for Rush, one of the most popular "cult bands" of all time. It was their style that really gets me into them. They were one of the innovators of progressive metal, which is now held by bands like Queensryche and Dream Theater. But then their change to more accessible and radio friendly pop-progressive rock was genius and its hard to find a band with that same kind of charm and style, dominated by Alex Lifeson's biting chords, Geddy Lee's busy bass playing, and Pearts fast drumming. Sounding poppy in some ways, the music still rocked hard and I just love how they were able to cross over to a pop mainstream with the heavy sound they boasted. Even their synth dominated music of the late 80's sounded great, due to some chilling instrumentallization. And they still sound great after all these years. But no matter what kind of Rush you listen to, it does sound that with each progressive album you listen to, you'll keep finding things that trace backwards, even though it sounded different. Genius lyrics too that deal with concerns of real life occurances, and, in the 70's, sci-fi and fantasies. For a trio they act like a 6 person band because of the several instruments used by Peart and Lee and also because of the production of their records and their writing, it all just goes so well and no matter what decade, their sound was something else and it was so unique apart from other bands that sounded more like what you'd expect music to sound like musically and lyrically from the period at the time (I favor Lee's bass playing both because of how he gets his bass to sound and he plays it like a lead guitar, listen to Limelight!). Their sound and lyricism is completely different from anything else I've ever heard. And now they probably hold the best app by a band on the iPhone! Hahaha.
I'm done. Any worshipers of this classic rock holy trio can post and have discussions please! Just doing my best to spread fandom. Rush rules!
I love Rush. Just so happened that one of my roomates in college was also a huge Rush fan, so our dorm was constantly blasting Rush through the hallways. Was fortunate enough to see them live way back in '94, most awesome show i've ever been too. Neal Peart is THE MAN when it comes to drums, and (not to mention one hell of a lyricist). Back in high school, i played bass guitar, so Geddy was one of my inspirations, right along side guys like Jaco, Stanley Clarke and Stu Hamm. And Alex Lifeson is one of the most underrated guitar players around. Such an awesome band.
