Topic: The original Zelda......... Worth completing?

Ok so I have my switch pre-ordered along with breath of the wild. Now I've completed ocarina of time, windwaker, skyward sword, Twilight Princess.

I was bought a Nes classic/mini for Christmas and I'm wondering is it worth going back to the roots and playing the original while I wait for the switch (this wait will kill me)

Graphics don't bother me as I was gaming on the Nes when it originally came out (I'm old) but I've never really sat down and played Zelda on it.

I'm wondering the difficulty, length of the game, satisfaction upon completion.

Is it really worth visiting where it all started?

It's easily my favorite nes game. I think it is a good example of an early nes game that aged well.

So I say yes. Just keep a map around in case you get too lost.

If you want to cheese it, just save at the money making game (you can access one super early) and max your money to start the game well.

You can get the good shield, blue ring, white sword and about six hearts (in total) before even entering the first temple. Among other things.

I didn't go much on it, probably because I've played the Oracle games which set a high standard for all other 2D Zelda games.

I'm belligerent, you were warned.

Oh yeah the oracle games have easily the best sword play. Playing anything earlier feels super primitive.

But hey one gets used to it.

The Legend of Zelda is easily my favorite NES game (I haven't played many NES titles, to be fair). It throws you into the world with little to go on, similar to what I've seen of BotW's opening. You can explore however you want, do the dungeons in any order (though attempting later levels early on is borderline suicidal unless you know what you're doing), and even do a second quest where the dungeons are completely scrambled (among other things).

Also, if you're not against using maps, I used this website for map references when playing; the site contains maps for other games as well, but be warned that not all games have full map compilations.

Yes. There's not even a point in discussing it. The correct answer is yes.

I don't like the game, but apparently most people do. Since you have an NES Classic Edition already, you might as well give the game and its sequel a try.

I like Zelda 1 a lot, but weirdly I haven't ever completed it. Just kept dying and getting lost in the final dungeon.

It's a pretty fun game. If you have the time, get some graph paper or bust out a spreadsheet and create your own map as you go through. They don't give you much info, but the world is not too large to do your own map, and it's fun to discover things. If you're used to NES games, it's a lot of fun (though I could see someone who didn't grow up in the NES era not really "getting it").

Oh I grew up in that era alright lol. I started gaming at 4 on the Atari 2600...... Haven't stopped since.

I tried to play this on VC without looking through any online guides, but failed miserably. I even made a map on a spreadsheet, but I still couldn't find many of the dungeons or useful items. Eventually, I just resorted to online guides.

It's fun to play, though when you start to struggle with what to do next, I'd suggest finding a guide or walkthrough for help.

Really guys the only hard to find dungeons are really the last 2. The first 4 are really in close together and the hints you are given in game to find the others are actually easy to understand (up, up, up or spectacle rock is an entrance to death)

I like the idea of drawing a map while I play. But I then mite cheat and go online to mark the dungeons as X's haha

Eel

Embarrassingly enough, the dungeon I can't ever find on my own is the second one.

I always forget the route.

I decided to download a map thats got the items listed on it plus dungeon maps. i managed to complete the first dungeon very easily and i understand that they get alot harder?

gamermole

Eel

Six, eight and nine are particularly hard.

I don't think it's necessary to have a map of the dungeons though.
