I honestly completely agree with you. I feel like with adding non-Nintendo characters, Nintendo is straying from the series' original concept. :/

I don't mind third party characters as long as they take the backseat and are just "cool unlockables". Preferably, no more than three should be present.
I don't really mind it, as long as the gameplay is done right. The last thing we need is more unbalance characters.

With the limited amount of characters I'm assuming there will be, they should really keep Sonic and Snake out. There's better stuff to get in instead of them (As well as, stated before, Snake and Sonic kinda stray the original concept).

I have a theory on SSB4 characters. Let's start with exclusive:
3DS:
Chrom*
Young link
Olimar
Wii U
Ike
Toon link
Charlie (Pikmin 3)*
(Characters with this [*] can contact taunt. Chrom contacts the custom character who claims that he recognizes the other character on the fire emblem stage. Charlie contacts the other player characters from Pikmin 3 on the Pikmin stage.) All exclusive characters will be available as DLC for the other version and will be available in the version according to the chart as starter characters. All the characters from SSBB appear except lucario. he is replaced with Mewtwo,s new form. Also there will be 4 new SSB representational characters.

Krystal is defiantly a good idea that many seem to agree on but i think next one needs all characters from super smash bros- brawl and many new ones should be at least 60 or more characters on next smash brothers and midna would be nice and probably about 100 characters on smash bros 5.
Just my opinion
If characters were taken out in previous games there not coming back. Like for example Roy. He was obviously taken out for a reason and if they took him out their not bringing him back.
