Wonder if they'll make a crappy game to go along with like they did for the 1st movie. 'Tis a shame LJN can't make one. They always had that distinct style when it came to their games.
Oh come on! Did they really need to remake one of my all time favorite childhood movies? I do like Jackie chan but the original Karate kid is a classic. Leave it alone and stop making so many damn remakes. What's next a remake of Back to the future? I'm disgusted.

Karate Kid, like the A-Team, Thundercats and the original Transformers cartoon is a classic example of Increasing Retro Quality Syndrome, whereby something looks better the further away from it you get.
Never ever watch it again, it's dreadful, preserve your happy memories kids.
That's my favorite movie series of all time with BTTF2 being my favorite movie of all time. At first I would be ecstactic and then I would be severely pissed once I hear who was cast and the plot

I don't exepct i'll see this until it's on cable in a few years (though i was a big fan of the first 2 KK movies -- even despite having to endure, to this day, being called Daniel-san (my real name's Daniel, duh)), but it doesn't look all that bad for what it is.
Back to the Future is one film that'd be VERY hard to remake. As the story is about a kid in the 80's travelling back in time in a DeLorean sports car to the 1950s and accidently stopping his parents from first meeting is a story that really needs both those time periods.
To a person in the 1950's, 80's fashion, a DeLorean sports car, portable video cameras, heavy metal and skateboarding are very alien and scary. However if you updated that to a kid of today going back to the 1980s, I doubt it'd have the same impact.
I mean are there any cars today that would be so radically different to anything in the 80s when the DeLorean still seems futuristic and cool by todays standards? What would Marty play at the dance in a remake? He went a bit Van Halen at the end of his perfomance, what is he going to do this time? Break out into an X-Factor/American Idol audition? He'd have bottles hurled at him in the 80's. Would they replace skateboarding with ... er skateboarding? As for fashion, the 80's was after the punk era and I doubt there's anything people wear today that would freak out anyone from the 80's. It just wouldn't work.
By the way, this isn't a rant - that post just got me thinking and I got a bit carried away .... oops.
This movie is going to suck, if it wasn't for Jackie Chan I'd skip this altogether. I mean, a karate kid without Mr. Miyagi and a kid that's 10 y old, it's just a recipe for disaster.
There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore

I know exactly what you mean, Badger, re-visiting old childhood favourites can be a risky business indeed. That said, I do think The (original) Karate Kid still holds up pretty well, as do many others from the same era: Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Gremlins, The Goonies, Back To The Future, The Burbs, Uncle Buck, Young Sherlock Holmes, The Great Outdoors, Big, The Breakfast Club, Stand By Me and, of course, The Wonder Years.
...A few that spring to mind that I definitely wish had stayed locked firmly away in the childhood memory bank are: The NeverEnding Story, American Flyers, Explorers, and The Wizard ...Oh dear!
