The newer versions, or the older ones? 2.0 is junk. I'll just say that. But KitKat (4.4) is surprisingly good, possibly even better than iOS

Windows XP was simple enough while being easy to navigate an still had enough features to do what I wanted without a ton of hassle.

Linux is a clusterf*** that was programmed only to please other programmers. It's systems are overcomplicated because what those people want isn't an enjoyable browsing experience, but a huge puzzle for them to solve. Consumer satisfaction isn't even considered, because the end user is expected to do most of the work.

You haven't used Linux in years, have you? The above was true until probably the mid-2000s. Nowadays, there are several distributions of Linux that are easier to set up than maintain than either Windows or Mac.

Okay, I'll admit my knowledge is outdated, but why should I trust a computer geek on what is and isn't user-friendly to an average person?

Linux is a clusterf*** now because people started doing any old rubbish infact in many ways it is like XP. (Loads of good and bad ways to do everything nothing is the same as anything else. Why fix the existing one when you can make a new one). Funnily enough whilst Linux is become more and more like XP. Newer versions of Powershell have more in common with the fundamental idea UNIX was based on (But a more modern approach to it).

The BSD's are better - consistent and well documented. There is a small set of rules after which everything else works exactly the same.

Favourite - Plan 9 (No corner cases like Linux/BSD/UNIX everything is the same all the time).
Least Favourite - Mac OS X. (Doesn't support focus follows mouse like any decent UNIX - I use it without autoraise - click to raise). Or Windows (With the simple registry hack).

Not saying it's bad, but going from my Nexus 7 with whatever the latest Android OS was in late-2012, to my iPad Mini with iOS 6 was a big difference for the good. (for me anyway)

They generally take cues from the market at large is doing. Hence why there's been such an outcry over the current Gnome3. The Gnome developers went towards a unified interface that's usable on even tablet devices because that's what the rest of the market was doing, and their hardcore users left en masse.

I've used roughly every other release, though only two of those on a daily basis, since my old Macbook died ages ago). However, I can't really pinpoint one that I like more than others since the naming convention doesn't lend itself well to stand out features of each release.

I really don't get all the hate on 8! (Look! It rhymes! ) I was really nervous when I upgraded but was pleasantly surprised by it, and I can't see anything wrong with it, other than the fact that many people would dislike Metro. I mean, I don't see how anyone can think Vista is better than 8, at least.

Vista was atrocious. 8 has its annoyances, but for the moment it's Windows 7 with some extra stuff no one wants but now can generally ignore.

I suppose you're right. I have custom mods on my laptop running 8.1 that makes it function like 7, like the classic Start Menu, Explorer, etc.

@brewsky (British voice) I am most sorry, my good fellow. Your comment was so deeply buried down on the previous page that I had not the pleasure of viewing it. Nevertheless, without further ado, let me say "well done brewsky, you have made a wise choice in choosing your operating system." takes yet another sip of coffee

Least favourite: Just any version of OS X. My family now all own Macs, and I simply do not understand them at all. Admittedly I've barely used them, but the couple of times I had to I've had so much trouble doing even the simplest things. And the fact my family are constantly going on about how Windows is rubbish and not good for anything, only to come running to me when a piece of software is Windows only is just annoying.
