dogs have owners whilst cats have staff. dogs are so needy, always bouncing, jumping, barking to get attention. cats generally have a pretty good handle on their place in the scheme of things.
tbh, i've owned both and loved both. at this point in my life, i prefer cats as they are much less work and still give plenty of love back. i may end up like that cat lady from the simpsons one day. if i do, please toss a penny my way to help feed them...thanks in advance.
Let's see, dogs in mankind's history have helped with hunting, protection of livestock and property, aided police when dealing with criminals including sniffing out bombs and drugs, assisted the blind and otherwise impaired, and numerous other wonderful deeds.

Dogs always did seem to be more practical for many things than cats. But cats may be a more useful house pet since they can ward off pests and little critters. But I still personally love dogs :3
Dogs, because they are more adorable. Unless the cat is Garfield. Garfield is the best. But it has to do with the ideology, and in real life, most cats are like nermal, and many dogs are more like Garfield than Odie (who is also cool).
I like both, but I prefer cats. They can be so loving when they want to be. And as I'm writing this my two new white kittens are noming on my ankles XD
