Not having that dub is no loss at all. Watching it in English is the only way, especially since a lot of the comical situations revolve around Fran and her "unique" voice (and of course also the voices of the other characters.
I really have to wonder how an English Lord or an English butler could ever be done justice in any other language), and of course, you always have to wonder how well certain comedic sentences or sayings can be translated, if at all. That always ruins it for me, anyways.

As an American living in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, I have the good fortune of being able to watch series and movies in their original state, because over here, they use subs rather than dubs. But since I do speak the language, I can obviously also read those, and sometimes, the translations (even when done by a supposed professional) are horrifyingly bad, either because they apparently didn't listen well enough to the audio, or because there simply is no Dutch translation for what was said in English, so they instead have to improvise to come up with some kind of similar expression.

Oh, and on Dutch TV, translators are only allowed to use two lines of sentences on screen, so often times, what is being said in English, is also cut down. All of that makes me glad that I can simply ignore the subs, and just listen to the English audio.

I grew up watching it in Spanish, so as with most things, that's my preferred way to watch it.

For accents, we have several applicable stereotypes. For example, to give an European English vibe to a character they make them talk in a posh way, with English-like cadence to their tone. Fran's just nasal though, that can happen in any language. Her dub actress is pretty spot on to be honest.

Some of the jokes do make more sense in English though. But most of them get adapted just fine. To be honest the ones I get the least are those that require you to know about certain famous people, and those are usually the same in both languages.

Just make sure it's Latin American Spanish.

As a Mexican I'm genetically predisposed to dislike European Spanish in media. Or something.

@Yosheel But that's just the thing: making them sound "posh", still doesn't make them sound English. And I'm not just criticizing the Spanish version, so I'm not targeting you personally, but it would be the same in Dutch, or in any other language. I've also worked and lived in Germany for a while, and for me, watching TV over there, was almost like a culture shock.

Back then, one of my favorite TV shows was Alf, and as mentioned before, I could always watch that in it's original, English form in the Netherlands, but in Germany, it was dubbed. And sure, the voice casting was somewhat decent, and they got the tone right for certain characters, but it was still German, and as such, not lip-synch and it got a whole different atmosphere, which I most certainly didn't like.

Going to the movies in Germany, which I did a couple of times, with some friends I made there, was a chore instead of a pleasure for me, because I was constantly annoyed with the dub, which took away from any possible enjoyment I could have gleaned from watching those movies.

And what also seems so strange to me, is that in countries where dubs are the rule, rather than the exception
(I say that because dubs actually DO happen in the Netherlands, but only for little kids programs), entire generations of people will live, never knowing the actors' and actresses' real voices, because some anonymous voice actor has taken over that part.

And even if they WOULD see them in a live TV show or something, it would possibly even be weird to hear their actual voice, because the voice of the voice actor would be the one that they're used to.

To me personally, that's just the world upside down, and I'm glad I don't live in a country that dubs everything and everyone. And I adhere to that same rule for non-English languages: I also watch anime (quite a lot many years ago, but nowadays, not so much anymore, but still) and I prefer to watch them subbed, unless there isn't any other version than English available.

Even if I don't understand or speak Japanese, the original voices do still get their intent and emotions across, so it just feels right to me, to watch them in their original language. And I have also watched Italian, French and even a few Spanish movies and/or series, same rule applies. I do speak a little Spanish, and with the help of the Dutch subs, I was relatively easily able to watch and enjoy the movies.

of course. As a MURICAN myself, I'm genetically predisposed to dislike anything European. This site is okay though.

@ThanosReXXX as a person from a country that dubs everything always (and they keep constant voice actors for some celebrities too!), I sincerely can't say I care about the language of what I'm watching. Unless the dub is bad enough to make me cringe.

I mostly just grow used to what I'm exposed to.

Been playing pokemon in English since I was a kid? Don't you dare set the game in Spanish for me.

Started watching this anime in English? Well no need to get the Japanese version now.

Started a new game in Spanish? Well why bother changing to English now.

But I'm flexible too. For example, I'm completely fine playing BoTW and Hyrule Warriors in Spanish, even though I don't like the name changes for characters.

@Fooligan I kinda hope you're kidding, otherwise the following will be rather unnecessary...

Well, as a "MURICAN" (horrible word, by the way: it reminds me of "dudebro" for some reason... ) myself, I'm pretty damn glad that I actually DO like a lot of European things. It's always a good thing to have a broader perspective, and know and learn, and above all, experience cultures that are FAR older and in some cases more advanced than ours. It kinda puts things in a realistic perspective, instead of just looking at things with a close-minded, patriotic point of view, which in many people only inspires that "us against the world" feeling, which is not very constructive at all.

I love my country just as much as the next guy, but I'm really glad I've seen quite a bit more of the rest of the world that's actually out there, on the other side of the pond. And living in Amsterdam is simply great. And I come across more than enough Americans on an almost daily basis over here, so if I do occasionally feel pangs of home sickness, I just strike up a conversation with them.

@Yosheel But how do you know that a Spanish dub will make you cringe, unless you hear the English original first? That's kinda the point, and also why I mentioned the example with the German dub of Alf.

Because bad acting is bad acting in any language.

Sometimes I actually find the dubs sound better than the originals.

@ThanosReXXX Yeah I'm kidding. My name on here is Fooligan. Most of the things I say nobody should take seriously.

On that note, why should I listen what you have to say? You've been living over there for so long you've become institutionalized.

These pretzels are making me thirsty

@Yosheel Hm, guess that makes sense, so I can agree with that.
Come to think of it, I actually have watched my share of dubs over the years, albeit sometimes obligatory:
Transformers, or any other cartoon series of Japanese origin broadcasted over here, such as Dragon Ball...
(which were ever only available in English, before there was any internet to speak of)

@Fooligan I figured as much, but I wasn't about to make assumptions, based on someone's avatar name.
As for becoming institutionalized: I should probably BE institutionalized, because having seen what I've seen over the years, will make even the best of us slightly mental. I've been in sensory overload for the better half of my life, especially when I ultimately landed, and decided to stay, in Amsterdam.

I didn't choose the avatar of a Mad Titan for nothing, you know...

I just meant on, like, the day of the full moon? Or at least the 72-hour period around that time?

On a side note, I found and played a whole bunch of different games where you play as an anthropomorphic wolf or dog last night.

Most of them weren't very good, had extremely low budgets, questionable design decisions, some laughably bad writing, and 9 times out of 10 were pornography. I still had fun regardless, and also fullfilled last year's strange urge to find a dating sim starring a candid canine relaxing at a beach resort.

My urges can be very specific sometimes.

I'm usually too distracted to even notice the moon is in any particular phase unless someone points it out.

Anyway sounds like you're going through a furry fever rush, I'd recommend some cold water.
