@-Red-: I think it has to do with the fact that the gun is in bad taste. Even though it's not Nintendo-endorsed nor was it made by the big N, it still carries the Nintendo logo and the design of the original Zapper. Thus in theory it could become bad press for Nintendo.
I think the article is justified from this perspective.

@Dankykong: That's not what I meant. The Zapper gun is actually the sort of thing Nintendo should react to, even though they can't pull it down nor can they stop people from manufacturing them. If they ignore it, they are silently saying it's okay for people to have real guns with Nintendo logos on them. At least that's the way it may very well get perceived.

You said it's not what you meant and then said exactly what I implied you meant again. "it may very well get perceived". You'd have to be a moron to think Nintendo is actually associated with the guns, and I doubt there are many gun fans who are also Nintendo fans, who'd do this on a large enough scale for it to be a problem.
Also it's not like this is the first nasty thing that has had Nintendo's name printed on it. There are pictures of drugs all over the internet with Super Mario graphics or various Nintendo logos stamped on it and nobody is going "oh my god Nintendo needs to address it and shut it down" because nobody is asking if Nintendo is making those drugs, because nobody is assuming Nintendo has anything to do with it. Same with this...
BTW, Nintendo can't/won't do anything about it. Other than people's personal/political views on guns clouding their judgement, this isn't any different from let's say the Man at Arms series on YouTube, where they have a professional blacksmith make real swords in the image of swords from pop-culture (and regarding Nintendo, they've made a Master Sword, a Falchion, and some sword from Majora's Mask. Heck, they've even made a Hylian shield).

Ugh, they cut the blade out rather than forge one. My grandfather would be turning in his grave

Granted, I know nothing of blacksmithing, but I've watched enough episodes to know the amount of effort they put into each blade varies from episode to episode.
I don't know if they've done anything the traditional way, but it seems like you can tell which properties they themselves are fans of.

For some reason that "this man saved Nintendo from the nukes" article from this website, got reposted to this news app I look at, and it has 14 dislikes, which is unusual because I rarely see any likes or dislikes on anything haha. But there's no comments so I'm suspicious.
For some reason, my phone only notifies me of about 2 out of every 6 mentions... I don't know why, but most of the time the emails are sent to the publicity folder and I'm not notified of them... But not all of them, it's pretty random.
Since the mentions are not displayed anywhere visible in the mobile site, I appreciate the emails.
