While the designs are similar enough to get the point across, there's probably just enough difference in design to fall under parody or "it looks sorta like X character, but isn't". This isn't really much different than when McDonald's used a bunch of lookalike characters in a commercial recently (including lookalikes of Mario & Bowser).
I can't see it lasting that long anyways (just based on the general theme), with how extra sensitive parents are these days.

I was reading right now about how there is a petition for a Satoru Iwata amiibo. It only needs less than 1,500 signatures.
That would be straight up profiting off of someone death just to make some crappy amiibo. That's incredibly disrespectful and someone needs to take it down.

My thoughts exactly. The moment someone brought up the idea of an Iwata Amiibo I was just thinking that would look like Nintendo was just cashing in on his death. Unless they were to donate all the money made to cancer research or something, it would be an awful idea, and even if they did donate all the money, it would still seem kind of weird.
I hope they take it a step further than just a mere Amiibo and have it also talk, something along the lines of "buy Nintendo products or I'll haunt you", "the stress of you not buying Nintendo products is what really killed me" or "my widow is crying as not enough people are buying Nintendo products for her to get royalties" would do.

There is a fine line between apathy and satire, this strikes me as crude and distasteful.
