Ok so does anyone know whats up with Portrait of Ruin? I have been looking for that game now since I beat Castlevania Bloodlines but I cant find it anywhere in town. I even went as far as calling 6 Gamestops in my area and not one of them had it. I also called two other stores that deal with used games and got the same results. The only place I can find it is Ebay or Amazon. Did that game have a limited release or something? I dont want to have to order it online cause I want to play it now but if its the only way I guess I just will have to suffer.

If you've searched six different GameStops already, I think ordering online would the quickest option as of now.

Thats what I figured but I was just wondering why its so hard to find. I thought maybe it was a very low release and not that many copies were produced or something.

No, it sold well. It's probably hard to find because it's six years old and it's a pretty good Castlevania game.

You should look into Dawn of Sorrow if you haven't already.

Yep I have Dawn of Sorrow in fact that was the whole reason I bought my DS in the first place lol. I just somehow missed Portrait of Ruin and Order of Ecclesia.

So how do you all think Castlevania: The Adventure Rebirth holds up difficulty wise compared to the rest of the series set on 3 lives and with the classic jumping physics?

Well I finally found a copy of Portrait of Ruin at of all places my local retro game store and brand new sealed. I am about an hour into this game already and I have to say I am finding this game BETTER than Dawn of Sorrow. Don't get me wrong DoS is a good game but what DoS did PoR does better. I especially like the hero co-op play where you can switch your hero between the two. Kinda reminds me of Castlevania III on the NES on how you can switch characters. Definitely worth the twenty dollars.

Do the online WiFi features present in the DS Castlevania entries function if you're playing them on a 3DS?

Why oh why does Dracula X have to go for around $130 on eBay.

And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)

And is Castlevania: The Adventure really as bad as most reviewers make it out to be?

Yes, it is. Though Castlevania Legends is equally as bad, if not worse. Hold out for Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge. The music is pretty good in all 3 games with Legends being the weakest, in my opinion.

I played maybe around 30 minutes of POR when my friend brought it over a few years back, and it was definitly far more unique than DOS was. I planned on getting it quite a while ago, but i'm at a point now where i just can't be bothered to play another Metroidvania unless a sequal comes out for the 3DS and NOT buy a western dev 'unless' it's wayforward. Contra 4 was just awesome!

I agree with ya but you know after finishing Castlevania: Bloodlines on the Sega Genesis and than learning that PoR was a direct sequel to it I just had to play it. Yea I am weird like that. I probably wont play Order unless I am still in a major Castlevania mood after I finish PoR.

Can never have to many Castelvania mania threads if you ask me!

It's classic style all the whip-wielding way for me over the ghoulish gobblygook "Metroidvania."

Super Castlevania IV > Dracula's Curse > Castlevania > Rondo of Blood > Dracula X > Bloodlines > Chronicles > Simon's Quest

I am one who like's Simon's Quest too. Classic Castlevania is my second favorite series only behind the magnificent Metroid. Because those two series are so great in my opinion I don't want a Madussa mishmash between them.

Wow, Bloodlines was kinda low on your list but each to his own. Am I the only one that is itching to play some new Castlevania games? With Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate coming up soon, I hope it can deliver.

I hope so too. Looking forward to having a handheld Castlevania again plus the console Lords of Shadow 2. I'm glad Konami is trying to reinvent the series and keep the games rolling out. I would hate to see the series fall off in quality like Silent Hill or become nonexistent like Goemon.
