Topic: Strange Video Game Coincidences/Cameos

Cheezy

Isn't it kind of weird seeing a video game with small tidbits of characters from other games, and sometimes other popular media all together? Things like total coincidences and cameo appearances leave you in a shocked state...there are tons of them, let's talk about them!! Which do you remember?

I remember in the American version of Secret Of Mana, there was a robotic boss named Kilroy, probably a shout out to Styx's futuristic rock opera 'Kilroy Was Here'. I always kind of speculated on that one, whether it was meant to be that way or just a strange coincidence

Seeing Link in Mario RPG was a nice surprise, also wasn't there a boss in Phantasy Star called Robocop?.

The game that does this the best, is World of Warcraft has characters, quests etc named after basically everything:

I'll let that list speak for itself.

Back when I played it was fun picking up on these references here and there =)

There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore

I'm surprised no one mentioned this already, but in Ocarina of Time, you can view portraits of Super Mario characters through a window in Hyrule Castle when you first meet Zelda.

Haha, I liked the Sockup in BIS named Kuribo. As soon as I saw that enemy, I knew there would be some reference to a Kuribo's Shoe. (You actually are riding in one when you hear that ^)

Starfy appeared in a poster in Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga. I haven't gotten that far yet, but I have seen a shot of it.

And I don't think Cameos and Coincidences are weird. I think it's great that video game developers want to show that their game doesn't take itself seriously. And who could forget Santa Claus in Secret of Mana??

Link in Soul Caliber 2.
Darth Vader, Yoda, and The Apprentice in Soul Caliber 4.
Mario/Peach/Bowser/Luigi/Yoshi in Ocarina of Time.
Star Fox masks in Majora's Mask.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

In Majora's Mask, one of the masks the Happy Mask Salesman has is Mario.

Many Mario enemies appeared in Link's Awakening, including Goombas and Chain Chomp.

In Final Fantasy, the Japanese version, there is a tombstone in one of the towns that says "Here lies Link, Hero of Hyrule".

My personal favorite (but sadly aborted) cameo:

No, I cannot resist the urge to be a giant fanboy. It's too ingrained within my psyche.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Is that Link??!?! 'cause the resemblance is so uncanny. I'm considering trying out Golden Sun someday, from what I saw it looks interesting.

The guy from Eastenders played the voice of the awesome guy in Call of Duty 4 - wasn't expecting that

It is indeed Link. Camelot programmed an entire NPC sprite sheet for him, but sadly he's not able to be seen within the course of normal gameplay. He's been hacked in that movie. It's too bad. I would have loved to see a Link cameo.

Anyways, any time somebody expresses interest in Golden Sun, I smile. If you ever get the chance, I hope you enjoy it, StarBoy.

Fanboy off-topic post is now over...

Myau from Phantasy Star looks very similar to Pikachu when you're in the overworld.

Also, there was a boss in Phantasy Star that was a robot, but it was called Robotcop with a T.

Currently playing:
Red Steel 2
The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
Pokemon HeartGold

Reala

Actually its the other way around, Pikachu looks like Myau since Myau came much earlier.

Sounds interesting, do you have a link? Not that I don't believe you, I just want to see it.
