Steve Jobs will continue being at apple, just at a different postion, as the Board of Chairman.

Jobs has had many health issues in the last year, so this new job may give him more time to relax.

I hope this new Tim Cook guy gives up on games and sticks to music and 4G stuff. Leave the games to Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft. Please.

Well it said its rumored he's in bad health so... if that is true then that's definitely a good reason to why he would resign from his position.

The world needs more people like Steve Jobs. I hope he's okay.

Well Steve Jobs is resigning?

If this news isn't a sign of the times then I don't know what else is. Apple Inc won't be the same without Steve Jobs. At lest, Sony PlayStation and Nintendo can breathe a sign of relief as the iOS gaming lovers fall out of love in fear of Apple's future without Steve Jobs.

I'm afraid that things must be gravely bad for Steve Jobs to step away from things. I never thought I'd see this day as I used to be an admirer of the empire Steven Jobs built. I think that this is a sign that his health is definitely failing him. This is sort of sad news.

Just a matter of time. The stress can't be helping his health issues.

He's still a huge part of the company.

It mentioned he survived Pancreatic cancer. I never knew that. Which can come back at any time and at his age can kill him in no time. :l

Well let's not go there. I don't want Steve Jobs to die. (.)_(.)

Sorry, I never respected Mr. Jobs after years of complaining about the success of Microsoft and later supsending all charity donations on Apple's behalf. I don't wish anyone ill-will but I do belive in karma.

Jobs was the one that hated gaming. If anything Apple is more likely to get aggressive with gaming now.

It's sad. After reading his resignation letter, it's clear he is really, really not well Such a visionary man.

Steve Jobs was truly a visionary man. It's sad to see that it has come to this. I had originally envisioned him outliving Bill Gates. I don't want to be hateful but I don't really think that Bill Gates is all that he is cracked up to be. I think that Steve Jobs is far more intelligent and had the consumer's interest at heart unlike Bill Gates.

Bill Gates donated to charity and educations programs to better communities. Steve Jobs did not.

Well, if you look at Microsoft now, compared to where Microsoft was at under Bill Gates, you'd realise just how important that man was to the company. You were probably quite young when he was active, but Gates and Microsoft were, if anything, more dominant than Apple is now.

I worry for the people at Apple that a similar thing will happen here. Probably not in the next 5 years, but 10, 15 years from now, I'd expect Apple to be in a far weaker position without Jobs.

I now wonder how long Apple will be able to maintain their religious fan-base with Steve Jobs out of the picture...

Either way, may the guy live a happy rest of his life. Although admittedly he's probably got that covered considering that he's convinced so many to keep buying newer-yet-nearly-identical versions of the same machine.

Steve Jobs' work has employed hundreds of thousands of people, and improved the livlihoods of millions.

Corporate philanthropy is not about "donating to charity." It's about improving lives. No company engages in a corporate philanthropy project without getting something back out of it.
