Knowing the popularity of Star Trek, I can logically assume that most of the people on this site are trekkies. This thread is devoted to anything pertaining Star Trek, including memorabilia, upcoming movies, games, the Star Trek convention, and more. I'm going to the Star Trek Con for the first time on August 4. Is anyone else going?

I think there is/was a Trek fan thread on here somewhere ...
Last Trek "con" type thing i went to was WAAAY back for the 25th Anniversary (1991), and Shatner and Nimoy were doing a speaking "tour". They spent half the time making fun (in a good-natured way) of DeForest Kelly, telling stories and such. Very awesome experience.
So yeah, i'm a Trekkie. Not a big fan of Voyager, though i did enjoy Enterprise the more i've watched it again and again. TNG is probably my favorite series, but TOS and DS9 are both very very close.
Any fan of TOS should also check out the fan-series "Phase II" (Formerly "The New Voyages"), which is set as basically the next season of TOS had it not been cancelled. They have a lot of original Trek writers working the scripts (including DC Fontana!), as well as some Trek cast members on occasion (Koenig, Takei, Denise Crosby).
I thought Voyager did have some great episodes, and i'll watch it when its on, but as a whole i didn't really dig the series as much. Mainly because i didn't like a lot of the characters as much as on other shows (i hated Janeway, not because she was a female captain but because she was inconsistently written and i just didn't like Kate Mulgrew in the role -- i would have loved to see the actress who played the Enterprise-C captain, who was supposedly in the running for the role originally), and i hated how focused on 7 of 9 the show became so they had an excuse to parade Jeri "i can't act, but i look good in spandex" Ryan around.
I thought Voyager sucked, but had one great thing going for it during its original run, Jeri Ryan. Yea, I was a teenager at the time, raging hormones, the story was pretty stale and didn't appeal to me beyond that. With that out of the way though, I gotta state that I felt that Deep Space Nine was an incredibly well written show in comparison to all Trek out at the time. I never did watch Enterprise, so I don't think its fair for me to judge it at all, but in terms of what I think was the best written of the ones I've watched at the time, DS9>TOS>7/9(lol,j/k)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>TNG>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>VOY I also found B5 to be a great show after its initial seasons on its original run, but yea, since its not Trek. I got my girlfriend hooked on TOS, she hasn't bit on DS9 though, it starts off a lot slower and we're bypassing TNG cause I can't watch those anymore.
What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.
Am I the only one who thinks Voyager is underrated? I loved that series.
I loved it when I was younger, and it is still good, but no longer my favourite. But it's got some really fantastic episodes when at its finest. My favourite series now is probably Deep Space Nine. It's got some funny episodes, some serious episodes, and it never seems to get old.
And yeah there's already a thread like this. TBD posted in it herself so this thread is officially doomed.

DS9 was truly awesome, especially once it hit the third or fourth season. Much darker than typical Trek, which turned some people off, but given the stories they were telling it worked perfectly. And since Chief O'Brien is one of my all time favorite Trek characters, i loved it. Favorite episode was "In the Pale Moonlight" -- the one where Sisko and Garrick conspire to fabricate evidence to bring the Romulans into the war against the Dominion -- followed closely by pretty much any O'Brien-focused episode.
DS9 is actually the only Trek series that i have all of the episodes on disc.
Speaking of, i did love those "Fan Collective" DVD sets they put out a few years back; nice selections of episodes.
Seriously, I tried to watch TNG when friends loaned me there DVDs and kept bugging me. I tried to enjoy it, but it came off as a bit too nerdy. Maybe it was just the episodes I watched. They sure do love their tachyon particles in that show. And level 4 diagnostics.
"The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
Also, TNG was the height of Trek, followed closely by DS9. After that point, it's been dead and buried for me, sadly. I still hold out hope for something decent to come along again in the future, but first they need to ditch the recent emphasis on generic sci-fi action and just hire some damn good writers for the first time in ages. I'd prefer a new series to take place at the Academy, and find some character from a past show for continuity (wouldn't it be great for old Picard to be now teaching at the Academy, and have the show follow various students?).
also, i, too, loved Voyager when i was a kid (i remember commandeering the TV that night so that i could watch the pilot episode while i was working on a science fair project, lol), but now... meh, it's still better than Enterprise (and that's only because the Xindi arc bored me to tears, really).
BEST THREAD EVER future of NL >:3
