Poor Eggman... had to go down without much dignity. He even suffered a facial/stache burn! Hopefully this will fuel his return to a more serious threat, as Sega of America has been teasing repeatedly.

Anyone else looking forward to the 3DS game a bit more. Right now the Wii U 3D stages look a bit too big and have alot going on. The 3DS stages look just right for this type of thing.

Hasn't Eggman already hopped aboard that train after his schemes in Colors and Generations? He was goofy, sure, but he was still a serious threat.

No these are the most guilty games in terms of making Eggman a joke. Continuous jokes about how he'll be defeated again. His machines make fun of him. He makes fun of himself. None of the protagonists feel threatened by him and make fun of him continuously. - it's a case of when his plans will be foiled rather than how Sonic will overcome obstacles.

@iClown - But he still ends up proving himself to be a major threat, despite his apparent incompetence. In Colors, he's the final boss, unlike many other titles where's he's upstaged by his 'minions'. In Generations, he has full control of the Time Eater throughout the whole game and nearly kills Sonic... twice. I'll admit, Eggman is a goofball (I think that adds to his character, personally), but when he gets serious, you'd better get out of his way (unless you're Sonic of course). :)

Fair point. I haven't played it in forever but from what I can remember I do like the presentation of the final boss in Colors. However, the lack of threat felt from Eggman throughout the game results in a poor build up to the final boss (I feel) which is supposed to be the climax. Despite (as you correctly say) getting upstaged by his minions, I could still be take him seriously as a villain. In fact, I'd say this doesn't undermine him but instead adds threat to the usurper. My fear with Lost World is that (since we know the deadly six will betray Eggman) Eggman's persona will continue from the previous games and his presence will just be an unneeded nuisance just shoved into the game for the sake of it.

Favourite line in that game for me comes after the level before the boss fight: Away, before I make mincemeat out of you.

@Happy_Mask I can top that. :P

Eggman truly meant business in SA2. Nothing phased his serious demeanor, not even Sonic's wisecracks towards him.

From the sounds of his tone in that English Lost World cutscene, he seems to be leaning back towards serious.

That lag is making me physically ill. I do like how from that cutscene it sounds like they're keeping in line with colors storytelling. It has a Saturday morning cartoon vibe that can ramp up without taking its self to seriously. Now to see if they can successfully add darker tones without suffering from sonic 06.

That last wisp was in the portable versions of Colors and Generations, the new ones look cool though (and the rock one makes me think of Pikmin).

The wisps look like gummy candy. Watching the Lost World videos and playing some of the Genesis games recently and I have to retract my statement about the Wii U version being a bit too big. I think my view was skewed by ,modern sonic's lack of real platforming in favor of boost your way to the end as fast as you can. This bigger level design still allows for get to the end the fastest but also allows for more actual platforming and alternate routes like the older games had.

Not sure if its an unpopular opinion but the best 3D sonic game is colors.

Agreed. Sonic Adventure 2 kinda sorta got it but this is the 3D Sonic game everyone was waiting for (perhaps this new game even more so). In some ways it was some of the most fun I've had playing games in quite some time. I haven't played Generations but from what I saw of it (and the HD version of Unleashed), it always seemed like you would constantly fail because you went too fast, which Colors seemed to have a just a little bit of restraint so that wouldn't happen so much.

I would say that would never happen, but hey there's a Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei game in the works, so who knows. Would rather have a Kid Icarus X Pikmin crossover though, however that would work.
