Topic: What do you call soda?

We call it soft drink here. It must be a British thing.

I call soda in general either "Coke" or "Drinkage" as in "Can I have a coke?" or " oh you are going out? Bring back drinkage" I live in the south, so we call it all coke, but then again, I refuse to drink Pepsi (the soda not the brand) so it applies to me. Drinkage refers to anything at the store that tastes good and is priced good.

Here in Brazil we say "refrigerante". I think you guys knows what it means.

In Japan they call it all Soda ソーダ. The term Soft Drink was used, since thats the term for a drink that doesn't contain milk or alcohol, but the japanese like to shorten their foreign loan words. Since Soft Drink doesn't only apply to carbonated beverages, words. Since Soft Drink doesn't only apply to carbonated beverages, they use the term Soda a lot.

I call it overpriced sugar water.

Pop is different from soda. Soda is stuff like Coke, Fanta, Sprite et cetera, while pop is the bubbly sweet stuff that is tangy and is usually brightly coloured with E numbers. I have no examples, but I know the difference for sure.

I call it Pepsi.

Pop usually, or soft drinks when I feel more sophisticated. No one says soda in these parts (Toronto).
